I am looking at a couple of amps at the moment....a Bad Cat Hot 30R, JCM 800, Bogner Uberschall (new version)...I play in a hard rock band a la AIC, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Helmet, Deftones, etc....Trying to find something will compliment the XTC for recordings and a stereo rig. Open to suggestions not listed above as well...couple things I don't like in amps: dry, super hi-fi, lack of clarity, super scooped...

Check out the Diezel line, I'd look at an Einstein or a Herbert.

I'd think they'd be too hi-fi for me though. I'm afraid they'd sound like a Sonic Maximizer was in the loop the whole time...

Ha, just sold one of those a couple months ago...great amp, just had problems with the FX loop, needed to be cranked to sound its best...more suited towards leads, unless insanely loud. Your clips are great, btw - I highly value your opinion...oh, and ordered those parts for the Cameron Mod yesterday - can't wait to try it out.

I think you'd like the Einstein. I almost liked it as much as the XTC. Not very Hi-Fi IMHO.

Every time I hear one of these it sounds like Van Halen to me...not that it's a bad thing, Eddie's one of the greatest, but not exactly what I'm going for.

Right on man, and thanks for your compliment. I allways thought the XTC paired with an SLO is one of the best combos. But I agree that they definately need volume to sound like they're supposed to sound.

It's a hard call when trying to find an amp to mix with another. I've run amps together that I just KNEW would sound great together because they sound different from eachother and thought they would compliment eachother, and was surprised how wrong I was... I think the absolute best way to decide is to acually try a few with your XTC. I do know a Cameron modded Marshall sounds sick with an XTC :D I may have one for sale soon. ;) :D

The Herbert isn't all that HiFi, but the feel of it is similar to the 101B. At least the one I had was that way.

Z! I thought you bought a new CCV??

Hey Ian...How's it goin? ...nah, haven't bought one yet...I kinda wish I would've held onto the SLO, as we're going to record in a little while.

Sent you a PM

Wizard Modern Classic! 2nd choice and very different is a M90

If you're thinking Bad Cat, try to find a Lynx - I think there's one for sale on TGP right now. No loop, but it's an awesome amp and a lot more flexible then the Hotcat. It is one of the few amps I've played that owns a mix as well as a SLO, but has much more of a low mid focus. Very clear and complex amp with plenty of grind...

VH4 - stereo with 101B or pretty much any other amp
cleans mix together super good
blue channel rocks with ch2, ch3 & ch4

Here is a little clip of mixed VH4/101B cleans

I had dirties too, but I don't remember where they are, sorry, but, believe me, they sound really really good together.

Herbert -

I was using Xtc/Uber
I have went with the herbert/uber
The Herbert is awesome live!! -

The xtc drove me nuts - No master volume -

Probably what Stratotone has. A 101b and a Mesa Roadster. I doubt you'd like the Diezel's since you said you don't want a high-fi sounding amp. But out of the Diezels i liked the Herbert the best. It sounds great at low volumes. I borrowed one but after a few days i knew i was drifting from it as i just kept plugging into my old IIC+ over it.

I think the Roadster is just very different from the 101b where it covers the huge, crushing, wall of gain sound.
