I bought a used Ampeg VL-502. It came with old 6550's and the amp has a bias switch to accept EL-34s. Bought some
Groove Tube EL-34s, but they wouldn't go in all the way. I actually snapped off the guide pin (and ruined the tube unfortunately,
heard a "whoosh" nosie which I assume means I broke the vaccum seal). With no guide pin the tubes go straight in. But I'm
confused. Are there different sized guide pins on different tubes? Which EL-34s can I buy that will actually fit in these tube
sockets. If anyone can offer some advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.
