Amps to avoid because they get easily lost in a band mix......

I would think that would depend on how you set it up, moreso than any amp in itself.

I think I would only worry about small amps, and not having enough power to compete.

Recto, especially if you dial it in badly. Axe Fx :cop:

Herbert..........flame suit on. :D

And a Mark series Boogie with too much scoop on the EQ.

Idk about the first...
But the second is BLASPHEMY!!!! :D

All amps get lost in the mix if not set up right with the rest of the mix and instrument. I also feel not all amps can be set up well with all styles and mixes.
Traditionally the guitar has been a upper midrange instrument. The amps that do not cut in the upper midrange are going to cause the most problems.
If your amp is not cutting the mix do not be afraid to dime the midrange. It may not give the best bedroom or recorded sound, but this is how most people well mix you live.
If there is no other midrange instruments you might get away with cutting midrange.

Flame suit eh?

Any amp can cut if setup properly, some better than others. Also like anything a lot of factors to consider, other band members, PA, room, etc.....

Now back to the flame suit, flames shooting rapidly towards you. :gethim:

100% agreed.

any amp can get lost in the mix its all how you EQ them. anyone ive ever jammed with i have buried with out much volume or gain so maybe they all sucked penis as eqing

I found they all get lost in the mix if the FOH is not set up properly. Any of my Mesa's I always run scooped. Just don't care for the mids being jacked up in my tone. Running two amps takes care of this, each cab being mic's or DI'd to the soundboard and the right level of the second amp mixed in the mix. This is where the soundman comes in and the best place to fuck things up.

I owned alot of amps. The one that stands out in getting "lost" was the Engl Fireball 100....
lots of lows and highs....but overall it would get a little lost and I had to CRANK it. :D
sounded good though.....pure metal.

+1 on the herbert, didnt matter what channel the guy had it on, the rhythm player's JCM800 1x12 combo at the diezel for breakfast.

didnt expect 5150 to get mentioned, definately not 5150 II's or SLO's - they cut like a knife in my experience.

Line 6 Flextone 2 HD. Man that amp sounded great playing along with bands on the radio, but once you got in a jam room with a band, forget about it lol. My cousins squire amp damn near cut through better than that half stack. Ahhh, the days of mowing lawns for a whole summer just to get that thing and sneaking beers in the jam room. Good times.

Yeah, I have never had an issue cutting through, and as some of the HCAF guys might know I had to deal with the most ridiculously scooped and gained out rhythm guitarrist for my last two bands. I do understand it's all about EQ'ing guys. :D

My old Marshall I had to boost the mids quite alot to cut through, but I knew I'd have to anyway as it wasn't very 'present' genreally.

The 5150 II though I could use at my bedroom settings live becuase it cuts through so well, I'm surprised anyone said 5150, I've always heard they slay in a band mix. I play in my bedroom/bass 5.5-6, mds 6, highs 5, res 4.5, pres, 3.5, gain 5.5. (I think, somthing like that anyway)

I've heard around that some ENGLs, Rectos and Kranks are pretty bad.

Have you ever played a recto in a band? I seriously doubt it...

This. Seriously. The 5150/6505 is like the epitome of a great cutting amp to me. It oozes mids.

Actually..come to think of it.. so do I... and the HD147, but not as much...they only had line 6 heads at the practice space I used to practice with the band, was quite annoying, I think I was the only one who noticed haha.
