VHT CLX,The tone knobs are really active, then you have the eq "Yikes" that takes awhile but it is worth it.. ;)
I agree, the CLX and UL take a while, but can deliver so damn many tones it's sick.
All controls on them especially the EQ can dramatically change your tone.

Took me a while with my UL as well but it was worth it! I'm glad I stuck with it because I almost gave up. The end result was all new tubes, lots of eq tweaking and realizing how important the 6 band is, which now stays engaged. Now it's crushing!

I actually just hit the spot on my Mark IV, got that AIC growl, just gotta crank it up now!

It's been many years since I played an UL I remember liking it, my CLX is the tightest amp that I have ever played the herbert is real close the two together is earth moving.

Sebby123 are you near Pa you are welcome to come check out the CLX.

You gotta hear a CLX, UL and JVM together via Voodoo amp switcher.
The UL is a bit tighter than the CLX, but the combination is insane.

krank amps
I don't think it is possible to dial in a good sound from a Krank

to be honest, i disagree, the kranks have made some awesome tones

I have only heard one guy make a Krank sound great, and that is Jeff Kollman. But I'm putting 90% of that in his hands. He also has all the original Krank prototypes before they became cheese graters.

From what I can remember of the UL I bet is the combo of the brothers VHT would be INSANE!!!!

Thanks fo the offer! I live in san diego its a little far :)

Has anyone ever compared a UL or CLX to a mark iv? im curouis....

Active (vs Passive)Tone Stacks are what amps that take a bit to dial in have in common.

The vast majority of amps work by deducting bass, mids, treble. Those that work by both deducting and adding to bass, mids, and treble always take more work.

And they often are the ones that get the most bipolar love/hate reviews.
