So I'm looking for a high gain amp with sag. Something like a Mesa Rectifier when its in the spongy/tube setting. I would grab another rectifier, which may be my only option with that feel, but I can't quite gel with the rectos. How about a Bogner Uberschall? Any suggestions for that spongy feel?

The Rev 2 is the definition of Sag.

The Uber definitely has that sag but it can still be somewhat tight and responsive. 101B Red Channel does it too.

DMoll is somehow dry yet has a bit of a sag to the attack. Sounds great and you can get modern tight with an OD boost when/if needed.

101b has noticeable sag. Especially in class A mode...

This may be a better option. Would definitely be more diverse.

If you do go Bogner I would look at this and the old Ubers. Decide which tone you like better and weigh the pros and cons.

OD100 SE+. The negative feedback control on the back lets you dial in as much sag as you desire.

-this has my interest, I have been wanting a thick, dynamic head, at first I was considering orange, but I don't like "fuzz or fizz", tried some "boutique" class A amps, one that has my interest is the VOX night train series, I would like to know of some other class A high gainers

Thanks for the info fellows. The Uber has my interest. The class A stuff, in my experience, gets fizzy when you push it into higher gain. I'll have to check on the Diezels that were recommended. Unfortunately I live in a area where I can't go play the higher end amps, so I'll have to buy knowing that I may have to flip it. Thanks again for the suggestions.

It's hard testing gear for me as well. There's only one place that has high end gear all the time and it's really weird there lol.

Plus different cab and all of that.

Sadly I use YouTube clips mostly when I decide, always shop everywhere, buy used, be patient and wait for a good deal to snag.

The Recto is probably your best bet. The original or Rev 2 Uber would also work. The Rev Blue Uber is definitely tighter and much less sag... Especially the newer Blue models made in the last few years.

A Marshall JTM45 reissue with a distortion or do upfront maybe worth looking into as well.

The Bogner Ecstasy 101b had it. Great feeling under the fingers. That sag is what I miss most about that amp.

Or maybe the Marshall VM. It sounded like it was from the JTM lineage, but with a lot more gain.

I'd say a Herbert could be an option? Had a good bit more sag to it than my Engls, EVHs, Peaveys and more than a bunch of other amps I've played on. It was actually a nice contrast to the tightness and immediate response from the Engl stuff. Never played a Recto or an Uber though, so might be a whole other level of sag your talking about.

Would a highly boosted Vox amp have a lot of sag? Considering that it has no negative feedback at all?

Just as an alternative...

-that's what I'm curious about as well, or maybe modded?
