AMT P2 - Is it as awesome as it looks?

Hey.

Typical question I guess. I love the sound of my 5150 blockletter, but I can't take it with me on tour. Usually we come to places with OK amps with the amount of gain I want, but at some venues they only have vintage low gain amps (even though our tech rider says HI-GAIN AMPS!) :gethim:

I've looked at a lot of pedals online to have as a backup in these cases and Wampler Pinnacle, Super Crunch Box and JHS Angry Charlie seems to stand out as a good hi-gain alternatives.
Then I stumbled upon these AMT Legend series. And the P2 seems to be a good solution to my problem.

Can anyone tell me about their experience with this pedal? And how is the sound using it as a regular stomp box into a clean amp (compared to for example Wampler)?

P.S. I play mostly heavy metal/epic doom stuff, so I like that natural sounding amp gain.

Cheers!

I would stick with something tube for live. For these applications i like the SMPS true hgh voltage pedal/preamps.

Newer, readily available.

(I have a black bi metal "bogner xtc" and love it)

Hard to get, small batch.

There are more, kingsley etc... do some searching.

Thanks. I'll defiantly check them out. Seems to cost a bit more, but I guess it's worth it. Tubes are a good idea.

I'm also really interested in this subject. Right now I have a peavey rockmaster for fly in gigs, but I'd prefer something smaller and lighter. It has to have an fx loop and clean+lead channels.
I've been looking at the AMT SS-11A... it has all the features I need and clips sound really good, but haven't had the chance to try one myself. Those two notes look really good too.

oh god I didn't need to see these.. Im hooked again;(

Anyone else that has experience with pedals as replacement for a 5150?

MXR 5150 >> AMT P2

IMO

This.

I had a P1 for about a year and couldnt get it to really sound like my 5150s.

That MXR 5150 pedal sounds pretty legit, though.

I loved the P1 but I ran it for direct recording. To use it like it is intended, you'd need to run it NOT out front of an amp but using the effects loop. They have the AMT Drive Series pedals which would work better.

The clips I have heard of the 5150 MXR sound really good

Here are 2 VERY old clips of the P1 I did

As I understand it the P2 is like a P1 plus an AMT drive, so you can run it into the FX loop or in front of a clean amp.

Well then that's a good solve.
