Analogue Delays... Too many to choose from

Looking for a nice Analogue Delay to put on my Battery Board or (go to) board.

I use delays as a reverb (if that makes sense haha), just to fill out the space, i prefer the sound over spring/plate/hall type pedals.

Looking at something small like:

EHX Memory Toy

MXR Carbon Copy

Modtone Analogue Delay

or possibly an Ibanez Analogue Delay.

just wondering which ones you guys would recommend? Compare etc??

For those interested the small board will be a Korg Pitchblack Tuner - LovePedal Amp50 - Xotic BB Preamp - and then a Delay Pedal.

Thanks

MiKe

Try before you buy, the Carbon Copy has been notoriously "dark" for some people.

I'm a fan of EHX Memory Man and Memory Boy. EHX make awesome products for a good price. I'd have several of their delays if it wasn't for the fact I love my Eventides so much :D

I thought the Way Huge Aqua Puss sounded pretty good. Wasn't too impressed with the Carbon Copy myself.

I have a carbon copy and I like it. I use delay in like a really wet reverb like you described. I have also been using an old quadraverb in the loop and I must say I like delay in the loop much better than in front of the amp. You don't have to worry about it behaving strangely if you change pickups or hit it with a boost.

I have a Carbon copy and really like it. For the price I think its the best out there. Sure there are other more expensive analog delays to choose from.

I found out the Carbon Copy to have a really good bypass which I can't say the same of other MXR pedals... No tone suck here...

I just bought the Modtone delay. It is suttle as far as delays go, almost more like a reverb, The slapback is great and the best feature in the pedal. I do notice that the repeats don't decay like a true analogue vintage delay does, the repeats are cleaner, but not as clean as a digital delay but somewhere between analogue and digital. Overall it does it's job and does'nt color my tone when engaged. My .02

+1 sounds great in the loop and only delays enough for what I need.

For all other delays I need I go to a Boss DD-20. That thing got everything including the kitchen sink.

Look for an original Boss DM-2. It's most of the analog pedals are cloned from anyway, and it sounds great for what you're looking to get from a delay.

I have both a Carbon Copy and a Memory Toy. I really like the CC. Stay away from the MT. Colors the dry signal really bad. Makes it very bright and louder. Ive also played and really liked the Malekko 616. Its great as well.

not spoken of a lot but I did the Tech 21 DLA
It has a spillover when you turn the pedal off , a tap tempo ,and a 9db boost for solos .
plus the flutter can give some detune warble and emulate a chorusing effect

I would say the Wampler Faux Analog Echo/Delay ($200?) or the Lovepedal Echobaby ($219). Those are both really good analog delays. I love the Memory Mans, but I've heard the new ones aren't so great and are too dark and gritty.

I have owned an El Capistan, CC, and the Wampler Analog echo. Of those three the Wampler was my favorite. Great pedal that doesn't change the tone but just compliments your existing tone. I'm waiting to get a Wampler tape echo with some new features.
