Anderson Raven. Anyone played one?

I've been looking for a company who makes a Jaguar-esque guitar with some more modern features (that isn't fender), and now I want a Raven really bad. Has anyone played one here and can fill me in? Do they feel like Jaguars, or are they more similar to the standard Anderson stuff? I'm a fan of Tom Anderson guitars, so if these live up to the Drop Top stuff, then I am on board.

How versatile are they? It seems like they could do about anything, and I'm not one to be boxed in by conventions.

Edit: Are there any other similar offset guitars I should be looking at? Something cheaper?

P.S Hi everyone :) I haven't been on RT in like 4 years. Seems like a lot of the old guard is still around, which is pretty cool. It's nice to be back.

Good to see you back!
Not much cheaper, but I'd have a look at the Luxxtone, go about 6 posts down viewtopic.php?f=3&t=88778

Oh boy, those look great. Tone Merchants stuff, out of LA, right? Now that I'm in San Diego, I should make a trip up there.

Jim Root Sig Jazzmaster?
Nah, not really my thing. I like the more classic look of a Jazzmaster/Jaguar. More color, the larger pick guard, things like that. :)

I'm the guy with the Switchback! The model is called the Miura. It's based off of the Jaguar/ Jazzmaster. Amazing guitar! I use it for all of my youtube demo in standard tuning.

I currently own 3 Switchback guitars. All of them are amazing and are built by one guy. Literally, one guy. The builder's name is Mike Package. He is one of the best in the business. Ask him anything and he will respond very quickly.

I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Very cool! I've been looking over their website with my wife here ever since I saw your video, haha. I'm very interested. I see he winds his own pickups too, which is cool. Your guitar is almost perfect for me actually. I love the color. I would made some slight changes to the control layout, and get a bound rosewood board with block inlays if possible. Now I have to figure out how to pay for it...

Thanks for the info! I'm off to watch more of your videos. :)

What can you tell me about the pickups you have in your Miura? I'm curious about the neck shape/thickness, and the neck joint/heel. Is it a 2 bolt like your Country Boy? (I'm watching your videos right now).

Cool!

Mike can work with you on most everything. The pickups I have are pretty standard. Probably a hot PAF in the bridge and a hot P90 in the neck. My Miura's neck shape feels like a fat D. He's since moved on to the 2 bolt design, but mine is a 4 bolt. My latest Countryboy has the new 2 bolt, which is great. There is some cool stuff going on in that neck pocket that helps keep it extremely stable. Ill do a vid on the Miura at some point.

I highly recommend Switchback. Mike is an amazing guy, and he will take care of you long after you make a purchase. Tell him I sent ya!

Sounds to me like I've found my next guitar purchase. My bank account is crying right now

Time to spec out exactly what I want and save up some money! Thanks for the info!

If anyone else has anything else to share, other builders n' such, please let me know. A cheaper option would be nice. I'm not very patient, apparently.

Mike makes sweet guitars. I think he has a knack for great necks.

Typing this from beautiful Lahaina, Maui!

I have had my Anderson raven for almost a year and I love it! Sounds and plays fantastic! What do you want to know? Great vintage(like) offset shape with all the great things I love about Tom's guitars.

Very cool. Great cover. The Black Crows are (were?) awesome.

What's the neck and heel feel like on your Raven? And what pickups are in it?

I have the Even Taper on all of my TAGs. It is my favorite neck shape by far. Fits my hands perfectly. Not too fat or thin...just right. I have the PH pickups in mine. They are his noise less version of the P90 and they sound great!

Oooohhh, purdy  What bridge is that? Hipshot trem?

Any of you guys using your offset guitars for heavier stuff? If I get one, I'd like to use it to do anything from jazz to high gain stuff.

That's Anderson's custom Gotoh trem with Graphtech saddles.
Standard fitting on all his trems.

It's a great bridge.

I think a great combo is an HB in the bridge and a P90 in the neck. I have that on 4 guitars now. You can do pretty much anything you want stylistically.

If you can find one, don't count out the ESP XJ-6. The original mij ESP, not the LTD. Stellar guitars.

Mine came with mini buckers but I had a custom guard for humbuckers made.

Sorry for terrible pics. I need to take new and better ones. Looks more purple in person.
