The band was on point here. I see Marshall's and a Wizard with the logo blocked out. I like a big glassy tone. What amp and speakers?

Wizard vintage classic/modern classic and 4x12s with greenbacks. Possibly a Schaffer replica as well

That's an awesome show been checking it out! Thanks for posting.
Yeah they usually have a perfect rock tone it seems.

You'd have a hard time getting that kind of tone at band practice volume.

This. It's all about the volume! Really key with all these great amps.

Is he using G12M's? Or was it G12H's? Greenback is a bit of a blanket word.

Also I think that is Malcoms ARD Wizard I see. Rick built him some monster with like twleve 6l6 power tubes 400 watts or something crazy like that. Thats why he had such a big punchy rhythm tone. Probably all Wizards. I heard Rick rebuilt some of his Plexis into Wizards

What makes a great sound is those swirling highs...the squeaky highs...harmonic quack that a great Marshall has...but not all of them do. Thats where Wizard comes in...it fucking has it in spades. I first kind of thought my amp was too bright and dialed out the brightness and thats where it became like all the other amps I played....dull city. Quickly realized thats was makes the amp alive. Great crunch is in the highs my friends and thats what makes a great amp and sound that cuts. A lot of people want an amp thats sounds good in the bedroom and alone without a band crashing in the background. Thats why they make them dark sounding...compression...(Friedman....Bogner) to name a couple.......sorry lol...etc. Put these amps in a band setting and they just don't cut it.
Many amp companies have claimed that in a certain mode their amp does the ACDC thing in low gain and its fucking bullshit.
Ive always been missing a certain something with everything else...and this was it. Wizard finally gave me the sound Ive always heard in my head. Fucking nails it and more

Agree with the above but on the cheap, a 2204 or JMP with the Volume up, a 4x12 with greenbacks or G12H30's and a schaffer replica should get you feeling pretty good about your setup. The tone has never been overly gained up either. I don't think he even cranked the preamp on those Marshalls, he just picked harder and dug in while kicking in that boost from the schaffer. Wizard is the way to go if you have the mula though. Modern amps that do the high gain thing can't help but be more compressed. That just won't work ever for this sound. The sound of rock is amps that cut.

Lol. It's all about headroom. The less gain you run, the more HR you get.. The less gain stages you have the more HR..

It does depend on the amp tho too. Transformer specs, chokes and filtering play a factor. I had a 60 watt JCM 2000 combo that was limp and would lay down at volume. In comparison, I had a Crate V30 that I put a Hammond OT on, and it murdered it on 3..

Yes a 2204 or even a clone of one, I just purchased this clone a few weeks ago shown in this video below played by and built from the guy I got it from. Not my first 2204 but before this I would have told you you needed a lot of volume behind it....changed my mind after getting this amp, ACDC all day long, can pull it off surprisingly good at lower volumes and just gets better as you turn it up thru a 4x12 with greenback type speakers.

Some may disagree with me on this, but the Peavey Windsor will get you that tone on the cheap.

Never was able to understand this amp... when it came out they were marketing it in blind tests against vintage MArshalls and people were picking the peavey. It just never picked up.... now you can routinely find them even in Canada for 3-400$. That's crazy for a tube amp.

That does sound good...classic goodness! I had a late 70's JMP 2204 that sounded great...one trick pony but what a trick.

Always reminds me of this clip where Scott Ian is playing through Angus' rig:

This. I have one. Through an ancient PV 412 loaded with Eminence speakers (over run Randall OEM speakers I picked up for cheap) the Windsor easily nails AC/DC tone, and you don't have to make it bleeding ear loud, either.

Absolutely love this video! Me and my drummer watch it after a jam at least once a month. The "holy shit' look on Scott's face is priceless.
