Anybody else dig?

best thing coming from that whole djent fad going on

would dig more if there was some vocals... yeah im one of those guys
a tasteful (not screaming) vocalist would really bring it all together for me

but its still jammin as heck!

So this is djent? I thought is was prog metal. Hmm...

I dig it without vocals. It's like an ultra cool soundtrack to a badass sci-fi movie.

most of the djent bands sound pretty much like all those other metal core bands trying to be prog

AAL are just the only band that pull it off and stay outta the core nonsense

they are pretty badass, but without vocals i get lost and don't focus on the music so much

Hadn't heard this. I dig it. There are some "core" sections. 1:47 just as one example begins what I would consider a "core" breakdown. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion though. I myself don't think "core" or "metal core" or whatever you want to call it is nonsense (not that this is, definitely for the most part isn't). But to each his own of course.

I really love the first album, but for some reason the new one just isn't doing it for me. And I don't really care for the whole "djent" thing.

Djent was a term used to best describe the sound Meshuggah got when chugging 4 note power chords...then later highjacked by trendies & turned into a genre.

I fucking LOVE these guys! Tosin is a beast. Really some brilliant stuff, and their latest-Weightless, has been in heavy rotation.   BTW, this stuff doesn't really fit in with the "scene" or any fad. Nothing sounds like AAL in my opinion. It's far more progressive than most guys can handle listening to, let alone play on the guitar!  Not a whole lot of "core" crap here, mostly prog, jazz, fusion and experimental spacey metal.

I just started getting into these guys. So far I'm really diggin' them.

This really makes me want to buy a 7 string and work on my metal rhythm chops. I know they play 8 strings, but I'm not ready for that yet. :D

They're obviously very talented but I can only listen for a few minutes before I get bored. When it's over I don't remember any of it.

I would say they are more progressive metal then djent. Tossin is totaly a beast and all over the fretboard. Djent tends to be redundant but there is nothing redundant with animals as leaders. He truly is inovative and has own thing going on, wich why I would lean toward progressive metal.

Ya, I dig these cats a lot... Totally off the map when it comes to the new stuff being doled out in the music scene. I like them....a LOT. I find their talent incredible, love the shit they're doing with the Axe-II, and overall, the musicianship. First few times I listened to their original release, I didn't even notice that there were no vocals until after the 3rd or 4th time into it

I like these guys for sure. And as for them being an offspring of djent....hmmmmmm, not to sure about that. Periphery, yes. Meshuggah, yep. Tesseract, absolutely. But not so much AAL. Just my 2 cents.

Yep. 8) Been diggin' 'em for a while, though I admittedly prefer the first ablum except the guitar tones. I've been doing a lot of listening to music involving major downtuning and am thinking about getting either a 7 or 8 string from Rondo ( http://www.rondomusic.com/8StringGuitars.html ) knowing I might regret it, though, if I can't get used to one. :D

I posted about getting one before reading your post. :D I don't know that an 8 will take too much more getting used to than a 7 but could be wrong. I just don't want to get a 7 and then regret not having that one more string soon after. :D

For all of you who prefer the first album but hate the whole djent scene, you should probably know that bulb wrote and produced that album. Tosin was alone with the rest of his band members for the second one, and that's why the second is so different. The first one is also all 7 string, iirc.

I think they have very memorable melodies. Their tunes actually get stuck in my head.  Especially On Impulse, Song of Solomon, New Eden, Tempting Time. I honestly think a vocalist would ruin their stuff.

To me it's like a Liquid Tension Experiment album that I can actually listen to.  Sounds very fresh and inspiring

heh id rather hear aal with vocals but when it comes to liquid tension experiment i much prefer it over most dt stuff
