Hello

Just got done profiling my Engl Gigmaster Clean Channel. Just to see how close it got, I did an A/B recording. While not completely scientific, you can hear how the kemper did Without any major refining except slightly adjusting one parameter which also accounts for slight difference (and make sense once I tell you what knob). I could twist a few knobs and what not probably to try to make them closer, or different. They are not an exact match, but I think with some tweaking I could get them closer. I got closer with my distorted sounds right off the bat and think I need to adjust some things (tonestack choice) differently, but at least you can hear what the process sounds like.

So which do you think is the amp and which is the kemper.

I went with first part being the amp... seems to have just a bit more top end... but to be 100% honest, they are extremely close and the difference is no question something that could be EQ'd out...

Mine shipped out today, get's here Thursday, been a LONG time since I've been so excited about a piece of gear...

I am excited for you!! I havnt been this excited over a peice of gear myself as well. Hit me up with any questions or suggestions on what user profiles to check out. If some of the stick presets don't excite you don't worry there is plenty more available. Not to mention simply changing around Cabs can really make a difference.

I like the cleans on this engl amp and now I can record them anytime without having to wake anyone up.

I'm also going "first part amp." Either way though, this thing continues to impress.

I'm guessing first part Kemper, second amp.

I prefer the first.

I like the first part better...I'll say that's the amp.

engl is I, kemper II

engl is more open, artifacts all over the place on part II IMHO. extremely stupid close though.

Guys be sure to check back tomorrow afternoon and I will reveal all

You did great getting them close, I have a feeling part two is the Engl now

1 amp
2 KPA

You played with the bass knob of the Kemper. Turning up the bass of 2nd example .

Both sounds TOP

Cool. Will say the results in just a few hours. At work now

If the first one isn't the amp I'll be shocked. The second one is trying to "fall apart" when you dig in a bit harder. The first one seems to hold together beautifully.

IF the first one really is the kemper, how does the unit "clean up" the sound?

REVEAL:

As I said this isn't really a purely scientific A/B, wasn't really meant to be, but just show my profiling experience and the end result. Due to me summing 2 mics together, The kemper has an extra conversion step. Then you are hearing both the output of the kemper, AND my miced cab, recorded to separate channels. Since I don't have the best isolation to tweak each exactly since the amp is in the other room and bleeding through, I didn't really try to get closer, but what I did adjust was the Clarity option on the kemper. And that is what I am hearing differently here, slightly more clarity and punch.

Kemper is the 1st part
Amp is the second part

To me the basic volumes are pretty much the same, the kemper has slightly more clarity and presence and punch, making it stand out a bit more, and the real amp has slightly more sag and mushiness, and digs in slightly more when hit harder, neither in a bad or good way. I like both, but I think I like the kemper slightly better overall as it added just a tad bit of clarity, assuming that the clarity knob is accounting for this major difference..

From all sites posted, most seem to prefer the first part, but most could not clearly say this is definetely the digital copy. Pretty cool actually. Had I a better listening environment I would further refine the two to get closer but that is not really all I am concerned with. Getting the same type of sound, close enough works for me, and even better if more detailed.

Cool

The smoothness/evenness (to me) has been the tell both times you've done this...and I prefer that smoothness....it's why I liked the Axe

In my humble opinion this is the only way to get an honest opinion when it comes to digital modelors. It has been my experiance that the more information that you give about what was used the more opinions and votes are swayed.
I guessed wrong the first time around and this time I got it right but both times I prefered the kemper LOL.
I'll repeat what Ive said before...The mere fact that it was so hard to tell which was the real amp says a TON. In the past People used to be able to spot a direct recording MILES away ,but now, not so much. All IMHO of course!!

I'm shocked! So the kemper actually clears up the mushyness? Weird/cool. GASSSSS
