Used the Kemper last night at a gig - ran the Kemper's line outs to the mixer/front of house/monitors, and the monitor out from the kemper to a Mesa rackmount recto and a Marshall v30 4x12. Didn't have the Mesa up very loud at all, was actually using a wedge monitor in front of me to try to keep stage volume down. The Mesa and marshall cab made a great Kemper stand.

Here's what was pretty interesting - guy came up to me between sets, said he was a guitar player, and mentioned how good my recto sounded. He thought the kemper was some weird fx unit. Was fun to tell him that all my tones were 'digital'. I mainly used a '74 Marshall profile I created that had a Fryette SAS pedal (EL86 tube) slamming the front end.

Hell yes! It sounds so much better IMHO than the axe fx I had it's not even funny. Sure it doesn't have the number of fx, but I'm not flanging the piss out of everything I play or need to use a hipass and lowpass filter along with a multiband compressor to bandaid a bad tone.

The best thing about the kemper is - it sounds like an amp with NO fx. You don't have to tweeze settings to make it sound good. You can use others profiles (there are over 900 right now on the kemper site) or take your favorite amp, mic it just right, feed it into the kemper and you'll have that tone at your fingertips anytime you want direct to a recording device or to the mixer/FOH at a gig.

Very cool, thanks for the gig report Pete

Now about this rubbish about Hamer being 95% of PRS QUALITY???? :D

Paul could be Jol's student

Some people can't handle the truth so I fibbed a bit on the side of PRS. :) The Duotone kills no matter how you slice it.

Hey Pete,

These are my findings as well. Glad to hear you are rocking the Kemper live. Ram it down, bro!

Squank, please please please profile some of those badass amps you have!

I just tracked something tonight, I am amazed at how amp like the tones are. I mean they sound like an amp. I always struggled with the Axe Fx. they sounded good but not like a real amp always.

I can't say on the axe II but the Kemper definitely sounds waaay better than the standard I used to have.

Wow, the honeymoon period with these things must be coming to an end soon and I keep hearing nothing but positive reviews.

Gotta be honest, I have gotten even better sounds from the this box as time goes on and as the user uploads have increased, and some well recorded. Its hard to keep up with how many are up there, and some don't float my boat but some sound very good, and the cool thing to me is that even if its an amp already uploaded, its a different approach, but still so many unique amps available now, not like just a few core amps to make all your sounds from.

Great review!
I may need one for di recording
I'm using an 11R and reamping later, but the di tones are just ok, & the feel blows

Pete- if your fleet of Marshall's are available for profiles, I'm in!

Ray - I've already profiled and posted my 70 and 72 superleads and my 74 50 watt. Have a friend who owns a recording studio - I want to head down there some time when he's free and have him help me profile some amps with a more professional setup to see how it goes. If I did that, then I'd take my stock '72 Marshall straight cab, the 70, 72 and probably my silver jubilee. But eventually one way or another *all* of my amps are getting profiled :D

I want one of these things!

I like the fact that it profiles the amps great sound and you don't have to dial and jump through a thousand eq levels and add all kinds of grease to make it more "amp like" I like a dry mic'd amp and then maybe add a little juice for solo's and use pedals infront..

I wouldn't use it live but direct to the pc it would be amazing!
