Yeah I know, another Kemper thread ; )

Took the Teutonic Tonal Lunchbox to rehearsal with the Black Sabbath tribute. Ran the monitor output (no cab emulation) into the fx return of a 1987 Plexi reissue that had been modded by Splawn to run a pair of KT88s with mercury magnetic transformers. Into a Randall 2x12 cab.

IT KILLED. :) Used Ola Englund's Triple recto patch and the amp sounded like a love song from the devil. It was just stupifyingly heavy. Went back to some modded marshalls and my bogner patches, worked great too. I'm totally sold on these. This is absolutely the best piece of gear I've bought in a loooooooong time. The shared patches are awesome too - a lot are crap. So what? Just move on until you find one you like. I forsee guys getting these and having 'Kemper Parties' or whatever - bring your Kemper and a few tube amps to profile, have a guy there who is good at setting a mic and dialling in a tone - kapow!

Could you imagine going to an ampfest and leaving with the tones of many of the amps you just checked out?

Pete

Can the kemper be used to profile an amp only without the cab/mic? That would be great because you could run impulses of any cab/mic combo and not be restricted to what was used in the profile.

I'm thinking... Amp to load box with an attenuated line out into the kemper. Capture that profile and then play the kemper into a DAW with cab/mic impulses. Is anyone doing this?

Great technology as is though!

Was it the Recto Tight patch!? I can't stop playing it! And thanks for the plug!

How many profiles have u uploaded ola? I only saw the one triple Rec profile is there more? Live this box

I have always found recording direct into a DAW using impulses or modeling less than satisfactory, particularly when trying to achieve a heavy rhythm tone that drips with that woody, thumpy (but not muddy) cabinet resonance produced by a cranked 4x12.

Does the Kemper record as well into a DAW direct versus being played through a cab and miced?

If the Kemper can truly overcome the recording direct problem so that micing a cab would become a thing of the past, that's nothing short of a revolution.

Even if micing a cab ultimately still produces the best results, having access to the tones of many different amps is definitely awesome.

To get a profile into the Kemper, most of us put a microphone on a cab, so you get that cab sound. Check out all the Kemper clips, it's freaking amazing how well they sit in a mix. I think the Kemper records better direct than miked... I posted a live clip here and on the gear page of my band playing a styx song, posted the solo I did that was direct to the PA. Sounded fine IMHO.

I stumbled across the video below indicating some potential of the Kemper Profiling Amp to produce the kind of heavy stuff I like (which is not as "djenty" as some might prefer). However, as it turns out, the killer tones heard during the intro and outro of the video were recordings of the actual Recto, not the KPA. :( I'd really like to hear how the KPA sounds in comparison within that same context. It's just too difficult to judge quality from camcorder audio posted to YouTube, though Jocke Skog (the dude playing the guitar and commenting in the video) is quite adamant the tone he was getting with the KPA is on par with the actual miced recto.

For further discussion including some comments by Jocke regarding the video, see pages 11 and 12 of the Ultimate Metal Forum post
