Happy new amp day! I love my 5150 III 100 watter. It just kills. Now I just need to keep saving pennies for the matching 412 cab.

I ordered one from Brad earlier this morning. Anxious to see what it sounds like with my feeble skillz

Hey Guys just got a pallet of EVH speaker cabs in stock as well

Damn that clips sounds freaking great. You need to post a longer clip you tease!!! ;) :D

This is making me rethink selling off my XXX and a few other things to obtain one.

Congrats! You'll likey. The clips I posted were pretty raw, no post fudging or EQing whatsoever. It is a tricky amp to record though. Definitely had to use different settings than what I was liking 'in the room' but I'm sure you'll figure it out. That resonance knob on the back is a blessing, nice touch!!

One tip I've read numerous times turned out to be very helpful/accurate...try lower to med output pickups, avoid (if possible) Alnico 2 as well. Sounds odd, I mean you'd think a high gain amp should be able to react great with damn near anything you throw at it, but not so with this thing, seems kinda delicate by design. I tried a guitar with a JB and also a Tone Zone and they both sounded pretty bad for some reason. The Air Zone (17k+) is usually my favorite with my other amps, but crikey, it was pretty scruffy with the 5150 mini. Could just be me though. Just got the amp! I did like a few others with it much better right away, like an old Super Distortion and also a Custom 5 (both around 14-15k), compared to the others, they were like night and day.

Alnico 5 sound great with it, the lower the better.
I hope so - taking a chance on this since there aren't any close to me to test prior to purchase. If I hate it, your clip is at fault

I'll be using it mostly with an RG770DX (stock pickups) and an Epi LP with a '57 Classic / '57 Classic Plus combo (4-wire push/pull split). Any thoughts?

Looking forward to giving it a spin...

Thanks!!! I've never heard a xxx in person, really can't say your thinking is right or not, lol! I'm going to try again today and use channel two with a pedal just for a comparison with the lead I did using channel 3. Sadly I got lazy when throwing down that little jam and stopped pretty much right where it is. A teaser clip will have to do!! Eventually I can see turning that idea into a full tune though and I'd no doubt try to play a lot cleaner while I'm at it!!

You got me there. Never been fortunate enough to own a LP of any sort and every Ibanez I've had came with some sort of DiMarzio. You'll just have to try 'em and see. The amp rocks, it has just the right amount on tightness for chording as well as some VERY nice chew on the single notes for soloing. You'll love it - King Guitar has a ton of rediculous amps at his disposal it seems and he's telling ya it sounds amazing as well. There you go. Hopefully you've got something in the Greenback family for a speaker.

Someone asked about a Chewpa/5150 III 50 comparison...I've learned one early difference so far, the EVH responds better to rolling the guitar volume back.

You're clips sound great to me. Hell, I bought an amp based on them

Right now I have a mix of Vintage 30's and Classic Lead 80's plus, believe it or not, some ancient Peavey Scorpions in a late 70's Carvin bottom 4x12 that I gig with weekly.

I also have a 1982 Marshall 4x12 with 1978 G12H30 Blackbacks that I was thinking about selling. I may have to keep it a little longer and see what the pairing sounds like

That is soooo true about lower output pickups. My stock Axis sounds a bit ruffley thru this amp but my strat with a BBQ bucker sounds clean tight and crunchy

I use hot pickups and after seeing all the comments about medium/low output pickups sounding better, tried a few... I eventually went back to high output with a JB/Jazz and it feels like I've come home. I play more modern metal stuff than some of you guys do though.

Good to see other agree with my findings on the pickups, when I got mine in March and reported that the amp did not like too hot and especially not A2's in the 5150 thread on TGP, a few eyebrows were raised, like "WTF, you cant use the Frankenstein pickup with it?"
For me, the sweet spot seem to be like around 10-11k. This amp is amazingly responsive to pickup changes.
Interestingly my Steinberger with an EMG85 in bridge works great with it.

Awesome clip btw!
