So, with Kix retiring in September this was probably our last show with them. Very underrated band to say the least. Ended up on a label that didn’t really know how to promote them so most people only know Don’t Close Your Eyes. If you get a chance to catch them before they hang it up this fall, do it.

We got to the gig and heard talk of a 4 piece Kix. Stage left was absent Brian Forsythe’s rig and we figured he may have had a Rhino Bucket show. Turns out he was/is in the hospital and at the time Steve announced the news, Brian’s condition was unknown. No other details. That left all of the guitar work to Bob Paré. Bob took the place of Ronnie Younkins about two years ago. Bob’s rig is either a Les Paul or SG into two master volume 50 watt JMP’s as seen in the picture. Cabs are two of the handwired 1960AHW. His pedalboard was a tuner, Analogman Bad Bob, and a Centura. There is no better rock tone than a Marshall JMP and I’ll fight you if you disagree.

I agree with you on all points.......I always thought they were a great down and dirty rock band with cool songs and great arrangements.

At one time they toured so much people thought they were going lose their citizenship...ok not really but I'd bet not many bands toured non stop as much as Kix.

It’s been pretty darn steady since they got back together. Steve had a band in the early 2000’s called Funny Money that was successful locally in the Maryland area. He’s really cool and down to earth. Funny as hell too.

Saw them open for Triumph in Oakland 1981 . Great live band but when I heard the debut it didn’t stack up to their performance. I liked them much better when they released Midnight Dynamite in 1985 and started leaning heavily on the AC/DC style riffs. Saw them here again twice in 1989. Really dig Blow My Fuse and Hot Wire also

My first concert was kix in 85 maybe? I guess their bus broke down and they did an impromptu show to pay for fixing it. Why else would they put on an unscheduled show in wv at the local armory…. It was awesome and I got so fuckin stoned….

Always wondered why they named themselves after bland cereal
The original band name, before Steve Whiteman joined, was The Shooz. Shoes are sometimes referred to as kicks. ie: “I got a new set of kicks.” Fancy 80’s spelling = Kix

Thanks…I actually always wondered about that.
