I cannot be arsed to turn knobs. If the amp doesn't come out of the box sounding good, it's not for me.

WOW! Thats FKN ANAL?

Dude...Bob's just playin'

And cracking me up! Bob is like my cousins wife's uncle, a fairly well known country player back in the late 70's and 80's. One time while my cousin was visiting, the uncle gave him a box of pedals that didn't work anymore. He said he had been too disappointed in their reliability so he switched to rack gear. About 25 different old Ibanez and Boss pedals including doubles and triples of many of them. He said if my cousin wanted them or could fix them he could have them. So my cousin flies them home from Nashville with him and proceeds to try one out. Sure enough, it's dead. He changed the battery. It worked perfectly. ALL of them worked perfectly when he put new batteries in them.

He called the uncle and said that all the pedals worked perfectly but just needed new batteries in them. He said the phone line just went dead for several seconds. Then the uncle started cracking up. He told my cousin to keep the pedals because he was too dumb to deserve them back.

Players like Bob and the uncle are too busy shredding faces off and can't be bothered with knob twiddling or changing batteries. That's for wussies!

"I cannot be arsed..." :D

personally, I expect an amp to sound great BEFORE I even get it out of the box
if the packaging doesn't impress me then it's a no go
that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

To the contrary, it's moronic.

Is that more like "I can`t be dicked into knob twiddling"?
Ooops, did I say "dick" and "knob" in the same sentence? :scared:

It's just funny when you meet people from online in my store and you were just sure they were going to rip by their demeanor and attitude and coming off like an expert online. Then you hear them play and you are just stunned.
Hey... we all can't be as good as you, big guy... :)

Steve

I heard you can't possibly bend out of tune if you buy a bogner and a suhr.....

I find this thread pretty funny, I never met a dude that wouldn't turn some knobs or switch a battery. I can't play as good as most of u guys and even though I've owned alot of amps I'm definately not a tone expert, there's just no way to judge a amp without turning the damn knobs. I'm glad I don't own a store or I might kick somebodys ass for being so stupid, shit if I seen somebody like that I would let them know what a moron they are, I can't stand cocky people that think they know it all and really know nothing.

First of all, I can't help but automatically think "bullshit" when someone starts talking shit about a well-made amp. If someone says something like "I wasn't that impressed," or "not quite what I expected...," then that's definitely not far from the truth. When people start bashing good amps though, that's when I write them off as dumbasses.

Now, on the other hand, I remember a JCM800KK thread somewhere. I was thinking it was a pretty cool sounding amp from having played it several times through a Marshall 4x12 lead cab. He explained somet technical shit about the components and how inferior they are to the JCM800 reissue.

He sounded like he knew what the hell he was talking about, and could have had very good reason to bash the amp. However, I still think the JCM800KK head sounds great. I now doubt their reliability until learning more about his assertions, but that's how I take things - with a grain of salt.

Come on now, that's not what I'm saying and certainly not the way I think. You might just want to worry about Notre Dame tomorrow there Skippy. :gethim:   I'm just talking about being able to play adequately, you know. Squeeze out some rhythm riffs with reasonable timing and stuff. When I test out amps, 95% of the time it's all about the rhythm tone.

dont ya just dime all the knobs, i learned that at guitar center! :hys:

I have learned as well thru the years to be a little PATIENT with amps to play them for a while before tossing in the towel. Some amps reguardless how dialed or what guitar are not for everyone.
What I do like is when I get a new amp........set all the knobs at noon,
and it sounds GREAT with not much tweaking. Of course we all know that dont happen too often.
But yeah the music 'experts' that come into the stores make me laugh.
But when I was 14 years old I probably was one of them assholes as well! :D

its a free world - some people got it while others will just take more time to earn it. but anyone can play any amplifier they please.

although if they have a lack of tonal abilities then i agree their opinions shouldnt be counted. but do you wager their tonal abilities with their playing abilities? or the fact they are incapable of doing either?

i could never work at a music store because of this. i feel sorry for alot of people that try and thats why i love giving lessons. but in a wierd way its wrong to give an opinion without backing it up properly.

imho i thought the last quickrod i played was ice-picky cranked. the other two i have jammed on sounded decent - they sounded like a marshall. but i have never owned a marshall for a reason - to each their own.

just like you cant expect a stock model T to do 220mph in a 1/4 mile - you cant expect certain amplifiers to do certain tones stock. each person has their own tastes as well which throws a whole different perspective into this.

personally like i said - its a free world. i never hate on anyone because of their opinions. but as the old saying goes - put up or shut up. backup what you say. and even then its still an opinion. no one has to believe it if they dont want too. its all relative.
