Any 7-String guys here? Attempting yet again!

So about 2001 I tried the first time it’s an LTD and then 2006 or do with a Japanese Ibby. Neither lasted more than a week or two. Got the itch again and snagged a KM-7 that’ll be here in the morning.

I tried one at GC and it played great so fingers crossed. Got it cheap enough on Reverb that I should be able to not lose a dime if I don’t like it.

KM7 is an excellent guitar. I fell out of love with the long scale on the higher strings, so I flipped it for a fanned fret. The long scale does rule for low end notes and has a cool piano quality to it on the high strings. You can easily go beyond dropA and down into drop G or even lower no problem- so much fun!

I think the KM7 is 26.5" scale, I tried that length and 27 and 28, but they just never felt right to me. All mine are 25.5" scale and I love the feel. Do you like the longer scale length?

Yeah man, I have heard good stuff about these KM’s from the few guys I know who are 7 players so figured “why not”. Like I said, I am sure I’ll get back what I paid for it.

Honestly I’m not sure how I like the scale length. It felt fine on the one I tried at GC but time will tell. Going to bring my Helix to work with me and test it out on my lunch break. I’ll do a full playthrough review and be brutally honest this weekend.

I am really not the typical 7 string player. I definitely don’t djent BUT there are some cool power metal bands that use them like Nocturnsl Rites. I’m a huge Hypocrisy fan so it’ll be cool to try some of that too.

I'm with ya, I don't djent or really care for the really dropped down tunings. I use a 57 for the low B string and use standard tuning, sometimes drop a half step. I love the full sound and heaviness but it's still a lower mid sound, above the mud. Good luck and looking forward to the review.

I have an 8 string that has become my main guitar. I love quite a bit about it with one huge exception. I have concluded that I hate most of the 8 string pickups on the market. Very few are good to my ears and taste. Part of it is me because I'm strange and really love single coils and low output, vintage type humbuckers due to running an EQ in front of whatever I'm plugged in to since 2000. Only mildly satisfied with a few pickups and I'm thinking of ditching the 8 for a standard tuned 6 string and an octave or A/B baritone 6 string. I absolutely adore the neck on my S8 though and love the feel of the body. The wide neck is kind of addictive.

I hope the guitar works out for you. Many of the more recent Schecters have been really nice with great features. If I could find pickups I love, I would stick with 8 strings period.

Hi,

8 years back i got a JEM UV777BK. That was my main guitar and playing it was just simpel. Now i am playing a rg2228 prestige for about 2 years.

The 8 string i had to get used to. Well the neck is just amazing! so it had to be my main guitar. I would play only that guitar, treating it like a 6/7 string with a extra low. Now i have no problems playing it.
Just make shure you have a guitar that is really well built and plays and feels good to you! Now only use that guitar, how difficult it may seem sometimes. After a while you should be comfortable playing it.

In the biginning i played mostly clean, due to music theory i was doing. So after a year or so i played high gain again. There was so much extra noise, lower strings ringing when not played, muting isssues and what not. I was in search of the problem. In the end, it was me!
Not playing high gain at all my muting technique did not change when converting to a 8 string.
Now i have no extra noise (sympatatic string noise), muting is almost perfect and im fully comfortable playing the 8 string.

I hope this helps, just play and keep on trying, thats the only way to go!

I'm thinking of ditching the 8 for a standard tuned 6 string and an octave or A/B baritone 6 string.

I've switched from a 7 to a baritone 6 since I realized I don't really need that treble string.

I've played only 7-strings for the last ten years or so. I don't use the low B string that often, but I feel lost with out it now. I had no idea what to do with an 8th string though. That was a very awkward experience when I tried one of those.

Schecter makes some really nice stuff. I've been blown away with some of the Diamond Series that I've tried.

I have a few. I dont play them as much as I used to, and have been going back to 6s more the last year or 2, but I always want at least 1 or 2 around for when I want that sound. I listen to so much music that is played on 7 strings that I like to have them around for when I get in that mood.

I dont really have the desire to buy any more, but I also dont have any desire to sell the ones I have.

I mainly play 6s but have a couple of 7s here I break out occasionally. They're fun to bang around on for a change of pace. The KM7 should be a solid guitar and they look great.

I've had a couple of 8 strings and they were logically easier to jump from a 6 string for me because playing 6 note sequences, an 8 string aligns just like a 6 string does. The 7 string always has the odd string out. But I just never could get that low 8 to sound right for my playing.
