Any Buxom Betty owners here?

I'm intrigued by this amp (and the idea of owning the complete trinity of Friedman sub-100 watt amps).

There are only a handful of clips out there but it sounds like it's supposed to be a Blackface preamp and a British power section. Is that fairly accurate? I have had a Blackface Deluxe clone and liked the cleans but it didn't take pedals well and completely flubbed out when you pushed it. Does the Betty have those issues?

How would you describe the overdrive tone and how loud is it when it begins to break up? I know the Dirty Shirley is going to have a lot more gain on tap, but is there a lot of difference between the Betty and the DS when it comes to clean and slight break up tones?

Thanks!

There is a video coming out in the next few days. Watch for it. This might give you a good idea what it can do.

Hey marshall 2553,

I have a Buxom Betty, picked it up in May of this year, also have a dirty shirley, and a smallbox. The BB takes pedals very well, works fantastic as a clean platform. Breakup volume, even edge of breakup, is "run you out of the room loud", so I never really use it, I play it most of the time on 1-2, it's a powerful amp. What you put in is what you get out, it's very articulate, does not add color, very representative of the guitar, pickups, pedals you run into it.

Hey bbe_rev, I remember your thread about the Buxom Betty on TGP. It sounds like what I'm looking for. I just need to determine if I can justify it, my DS sounds pretty dang good clean with the gain down around 2 or 3.

Thanks Dave, I just saw it on Facebook. Great demo of the amp and that singer is amazing.

I agree, I really like the DS "clean" sound with gain around 1-2 also, the BB is quite different, it is clean, clean, where the DS (mine anyway) always seems to have a little hair on it. I have a buddy who is a clean platform guy, all overdrive/distortion from pedals, and the BB is his favorite of my 3 friedmans, 2nd is the Smallbox on the Plexi channel set clean. FWIW...

I guess I'll find out for myself soon, I just bought a Buxom Betty combo at a price that I couldn't pass up.

Good job marshall2553!! Report back, I'm curious to hear your feedback.

Cheers

My Betty landed yesterday. Despite a shitty packing job by the dealer and suffering a UPS train derailment on the way it seems to be in great shape. Love it so far, a nice contrast to the SmallBox and Dirty Shirley. I need some more time on it. But after less than an hour on it: nice clean and takes pedals well, reverb is perfect, starts breaking up without being crazy loud, no flub. I may try it with a V30 later, I tend to like those with Fender-ish amps.

Hey marshall2553,

I could not respond via PM, restricted for some reason, but to answer your question, I have not noticed what you described with my amp.
