We play our whole set as a 3 piece band with a main vocalist and one or 2 backup vocals . Thinking of expanding our range of tunes with some keyboard, sound accompaniment, possibly punching in a rhythm guitar under a lead break, etc. I have done it before and no one in the bar ever seemed to mind... used to do it with an old Ensoniq sequencer, but this time around I am going to load up a Digitech stereo jamman and send the drummer a click through that.

I will not be using it on every track.. and plus none of the songs we play our my own, so I understand that even at our best we are a glorified karaoke machine anyways! Just want to make the songs sound the best they can

this will also be good for firing off cool or funny clips between songs for intros and space fillers etc.

My tribute band uses samples but not through full songs. Our keyboard playewr just triggers them. That said, I don't see anything wrong with it since there are TONS of established famous acts doing this all the time.

yes, my band does it for 95% of our tracks. 3 piece plus vocalist. Mainly rhythm guitars and a few keyboard parts, but no one seems to mind. There are a few songs where the rhythm guitar only is playing and I just find something that fits with the song or roll my volume down a bit and play along....most people dont notice.

believe me, it's not a matter of pride ( or else i wouldn't be playing other peoples music) and I do not know any good rock keyboardist/guitarists... we play a few tunes that really sound EMPTY without a bit more sound to flesh it out...and it will make our set more fun to play with way more options!

We have keyboards on a few of our songs. We don't play enough songs that have keyboards to warrant having a fulltime guy. We use an iPod Touch controlled by our drummer. Each "song" is an mp3 with one side a click and the other the keyboard track. We hear the click and keys in our in-ears and only the keys come through the mains.

The only people that bitch about it are "purist" musicians who cant figure out how to make it work for them. Good enough for Journey....Good enough for me.

I just sat in with a band for a gig and they did the exact same thing, it really worked great!

Yeah, we have every song's tempo as an mp3. It is so nice to play with consistent tempo. Until you get used to playing with a click you don't know what you're missing.
