I was visiting my parents and found mine that I was using in the mid 80's. I had no idea it was still around.

I brought it home and cleaned it up and I swear it is the best OD that I have ever used. IMO, the OCD, Xotic BB and RC, as well as the Barber DD I currently have don't even come close. Pure uncolored push with ZERO noise. I can max out the level and put the gain at 3/4 and there even isn't any hiss. How many OD pedals can you say that about these days ?

Needless to say, I am happy this thing stuck around for the past 20 years or so  The only thing is that my AC adapter doesn't fit the tiny input. I need to track one down. If this thing is still reliable, I swear I am selling all these pedals I have around the house.

Never heard one. I'd hang on to it. The originals are pretty pricey on fleabay. There's one on there now with a BIN of $1000.

Is it a gray one or a yellow one? I have a couple of modded DOD YJM 308's based on the OD250 and the guys who mod them go after the gray specs.

I love mine but they aren't THAT quiet. Do you like them with humbuckers too? Mainly it's the single coil guys that love them with a vintage Marshall sounding amp.

Planning on building one (gray spec) soon - if my boards ever show up  Great sounding pedal and simple to dial in. I knew a lot of guys that used them back in the day. I was always a rat guy but you gotta love a 250.

love em. IMO, the old grey 250 one is the best american overdrive pedals made. i don't think they compress that much at all through a stock marshall, just slam the front end of the amp and gives a fat natural/transparent/organic overdrive. I agree with Chubtone on the single coil usage. The old yeller's are cool too, more gain, but are a little mushier.

Always wanted to try one, but never have. Are the DOD 250 reissues true to the yellow or gray specs, or neither?

had an old yellow that I bought from a pawn shop in 84 that allowed me to shred on a fender harvard reverb II all the way through college

killer box
the reissues weren't even close!

I like em. In moderation I built a cool clone once and put a socket in there so I could try different op amps. I think you can still see it it was called the "So Smooth" pedal Ill go search it see if its still up

I have seen different versions of the yellow preamp 250. I have 2 that have a specific cap inside and a 3rd with a smaller cap...which is the mushy one. I actually had an exact cap (like the older 2) from a dead 80's DOD pedal and I swapped it out into the preamp 250 and BAM!, the tight tone was back.

I actually find the gray version to be mushy with regular humbuckers. :scared:

Dave, Can u PM me with the Cap value to make the Yellow tighter? thats very interesting...Ive actually had my yellow one since early 80's, so would love to get that improved. thanks and yeah I stick to tube screamer type pedals for the humbucker thing. thanks!

I have an old DOD fet preamp 210 orange pedal. I should put that thing on my board, bet it would rip with the P90's i'm using lately.

another gem! i have the grey version of that. i love those old FET pedals, lots of vibe. The 250 is also based on FET, great stuff! the only downside to these old pedals is that they are noisy, but I've noticed that reissue products af these are not as noisy but they don't compare to the feel and tone IMO. Same with MXR.

I have a DOD analog delay it's an old blue one, I use this thing pretty sparingly , set low in other words, thing sounds great to me. also have an older DOD 7 band eq that is awesome.

Curt, Dave, or Ant, so what is this thing that makes this pedal so good with single coils? Usually I am just boosting with all line level and little to no drive to get some goods, what is different?

It adds alot of beef. Not only does it not cut bass, it actually adds thickness above and beyond the disengaged dry sound. Actually makes my strat bridge pup useable without rolling down the tone knob. Very unique for an OD pedal.
