Any experience with tariffs ordering from the UK? (please don't turn this political)

I'm looking at getting an amp kit or two from Modulus Amplification which is located in Scotland. I think it's a blanket 10% tariff on imported goods from there, but I'm not sure. Trying to figure out what kind of extra costs I'd be looking at. I don't want a couple hundred dollar amp kit to turn into a couple thousand because of excessive fees beyond the basic tariff.

Anyone recently order anything from Scotland or the UK? What was your experience with tariffs and/or import fees?

I'm just trying to get info. So for the love of all that is holy please don't turn this thread into a political shitshow that ends up in OTC. Thanks!

From what I can find it seems you’re correct about 10%. Maybe the company can tell you as they may have got feedback from U.S. customers on what they paid.

In general if you use the national postal systems and fill out the forms yourself, and know what the tariff on your item is you will pay no more and no less than what you should.

It's when people use (intentionally or unintentionally as part of shipping) intermediaries like DHL etc. that problems arise. The intermediaries charge a fee, and then they may make paperwork mistakes that increase the rate that either have to be fixed, or higher rates paid if you ignore the problem.

Why are you concerned about tariffs? I was told US citizens wouldn't be the ones paying them.

Back in September / October I ordered a custom flight case from England for a large 88-key workstation; shipped FedEx International. FedEx paid the import duties on my behalf, and about two weeks after delivery, I got a bill for the import duties from FedEx, which I paid. Simple, painless.

Now Canada was a nightmare; I purchased a guitar from a shop in Canada; it got stuck in Canadian customs, and returned to the shop. This happened twice, first with FedEx, second with ShipNerd and UPS; the entire effort lasted several weeks. After the second attempt, I asked the shop for a refund, which they did. Each time, the shipper was told he was missing information, which he provided because he copied me on his emails with the shipping companies and Canadian customs. SMH

I didn't say anything political, I just asked an open ended question. I didn't even express an opinion about anything.

Bullshit, you know exactly what you were doing. Now kindly leave this thread if you're unable to behave yourself and respect my wishes (and the main forum) to keep politics out.

Goodness, my apologies if I said anything offensive, that wasn't my intention. But I assure you there is nothing "political" about my posts. I'm not asserting any opinions about policy or politicians or anything of the sort. Again, I'm not even asserting any opinions.

All I'm doing is asking why you'd need to pay for tariffs on imports when so many people here on these forums have said US citizens would never have to do that. I'm confused is all. It is interesting that simply asking an open-ended question would cause such an outburst on your part, though.

Would you mind explaining it?

This would be the experience I'd be hoping for. Did FedEx charge an extra processing fee or anything, or was it strictly the tariff they billed you for?

Kindly, go be a dipshit somewhere else.

Ha ha ha... the internet makes everything political!

*Sigh*
Nah, it's people that do that. The internet is only a road for the intelligences and lack thereofs driving its lanes.

Why wouldn't you just call Modulus Amplification and ask them?
Is there a tariff on phone calls?

When I'm ready to place an order I'll contact them. Hopefully they'll have some info from their side of the equation, but I don't know how much they sell internationally. For now just seeing if anyone has had recent first hand experience buying from the UK.
