I have been gassing for a mesa rig for a while now, I had a recto, wasnt really my thing but I love the mark series amps. I recentl have been looking at the old mesa studio and quad preamps, and I really want to build a rack rig with one and a 2:90 or 2:50, I dont see too many threads about them, anybody have any experience with these two?

The studio pre is what brought me to Mesa in the first place. The Quad is a kick @$$ pre... just heavy. Tone: one word description for either one.

Mee too, except I've never had a Mesa and would love to get a Recto. Love the tone. But I also would like to rack everything up. Is there a rack mount Mesa pre that sounds like a recto? Right now, I have to fake it with Guitar Rig on my Mac. Works and sounds pretty good, but nothing like the actual thing.

If you want the recto sound, you could try getting a rackmount recto or a recto preamp.

ooooh... sounds intriguing. I'm assuming the pre's are somewhat comparable in price to the head? Maybe a little less since no power is involved?

On eBay the Recto Pres go for usually $700-$800. They are a bit different than an actually recto head pre though, or so I've heard. Some prefer it as I've heard it's not as flubby as a dual rec head, but to each their own.
