Any fans of the Ibanez SD-9 ??

As a teenager I had one. I had a OD9 too. I don't remember now which is which. I think the Sonic Distortion ( SD9) was one I really liked. Someone had given me a tube screamer clone ( I think it was called screaming tree) and I didn't like it. I still don't care for tube screamers. Too anemic. At least for hard rock. The SD9 was not like that. It was definitely grittier and had more balls.

looking at the schematic ....... it's not far from a Screamer ..... but it's got more gain .... and it's a bit different in a couple of sections ...

I like the vids I've found on it ... I'll probably build one to check it out .. make it true bypass .... maybe even hot rod it a little bit ...

Tube Screamers in my memory ( it has been a long time since I messed with one) barely qualified as distortion pedals to me. When you plugged in an SD9 it sounded like 70s rock and roll instantly. Definitely more gain.
 
Screaming Tree (and Screaming Bird), were EHX treble boosts. I had a Screaming Bird...very noisy too.

Maxon was the name of the company that made Ibanez pedals. The SD9 was an Ibanez pedal I think. Griff might be getting an early start on his day drinking. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
 
I love them; can be quite sensitive/tricky to setup depending on the rest of your rig, but quite unique and worth trying IMHO. Don't be afraid to use extreme setting on the knobs.
 
Same preface as so much I post here: I had and loved an SD-9 many years ago. It was a blast through the cleanish amps I started playing with, but I have no clue how my preferences then and now would match. It was too much through the Marshall when I finally got one.

They seem much in the vein of other distortion pedals of the era, so I think it'd be a fun built/experiment.
