Any fans of the TAD 6L6GC-STR in the Soldano SLO?

I just ordered a set for my SLO to try out. Actually they were the preferred series from the tube store, but they are the same tube. SO far I have only used the Sovtek 5881s that come stock in the SLO and finally decided I want to try something else. These seem to be robust enough for the SLO's plate voltage. Anyone used these?

I tried a set in mine, although it was a few years ago. I guess I didn't dislike them, but I wasn't blown away. I recall the low end being a bit less defined than the Winged C's I used later. ...maybe a softer attack? As of lately I'm back to the Sovtek 5881.

Mine is a clone. But it's pretty close to the real thing. I currently have them in there. I don't notice a huge difference compared to the Sovteks to be honest. But maybe a little less ragged. You're not gonna hear a big difference regardless of power tube in this amp. But they are 6L6GCs and not 5881s, so maybe you'll here a little bit more of a change than if you went with another brand of 5881.

Yeah this is sort of what I was expecting. I know they are a fairly popular current production tube, so I guess we will see. I'm curious what the 6L6GC will change vs. the Sovtek 5881s.

I'll tell you where I have heard a difference in my SLO, changing V1, V2, and V5. Lately I've been running a Tung Sol balanced reissue in V5 and I'm loving that! It's not really a recommended phase inverter tube, but it is working fine so far and it really changed the feel compared to the Chinese 12AX7 that was in V5. I'm also enjoying an EH12AX7 in V1.
