Saw a Fender strat at a local shop - looks like an EJ strat - has the burst body, maple board, small frets. Is there anything I should look for on these - any models better than others, etc? I remember newer models are 'crafted' in japan vs 'made' - how can I tell if it's a 57 or a 62 what year reissue? Looks to be a vintage vibe kinda thing, I'm just curious WHICH. :D

Hey Pete,

The Crafted in Jap Models should have a stamp on the body where the neck sits that should read ST-57..also behind the neck near where it joins the body should have a crafted or made in japan. The Made in Japans were basswood bodies, the crafted in japans are alder. I have a candy apple crafted in Jap 57' reissue and I replaced the trem block to a titanium and put Fender noiseless PU's in...which are Ok. Some people dont like the CIJ, but I love the sound of that guitar, especially doing the EJ/SRV clen stuff.

hope that helps
