Curious as to yiur impressions compared to Charvel CS, Luxxtone other customs. Any input appreciated

Would also like to know about this. I’m very tempted to get a Friedman Cali that is currently on sale on Reverb.

Curious about their pickups. VintgeHot PAFs are gettin quite popular lately.

If I'm not mistaken, I thought the Friedman pickups were in the same vein with Motorcity pickups because I know Dave is a big fan of those. I know the idea is to have that PAF feel where you put a lower output into a hot rodded amp.

It's funny, when I first started playing guitar in the mid-80s, I couldn't have enough gain. All I wanted to do was put the gain at 10 and have more gain, more gain, more gain!! LOL. Years later I realized how much of the articulation you lose with the notes and doesn't sound as organic, etc. I think when I got a Metal Zone pedal I finally realized there is a such thing as too much gain. :)

That's a kind of philosophy I'm digging at the moment. Same for me, I was always after high output pickups and loads of gain, but it's something not appealing me that much anymore. I mean it's comfy with high output pickups, little effort while playing, not much to worry about, screamin liquid leads, very compact sound... That's why Duncan JB is SO appreciated right? :D
Then I realized as well how the sound tends to be muffled, flat, not organic, with little "breath", and started searching for Vintage Hot humbs (traumatic transition honestly). Bareknuckle VHII was a fine player, and Duncan 78 as well. Liked the Suhr SSV a lot! Now givin a chance to Schecter Pasadena, we'll see. But still interested in Friedman and Motorcity designs

LOL, yep exactly! My Charvel Warren DeMartini has his sig pickup in it which is basically a JB, and great for shredding, but my Les Paul Classic with Motorcity 2nd Degree Blackbelts in it sound awesome!

It is crazy when I play my guitars thru the same preset in an Axe-Fx II. That is when I notice the differences. I have an Aldrich preset for playing hard rock stuff and I get so many different tones. I guess that is why we all like swapping pickups. The only pickup I'm not a big fan of right now is the one in my 50th Anniversary Gibson SG. It is a 57' Classic and I don't know man, I just can't get into it for some reason. Has this "clank" to it and a piercing tone that I can't put my finger on. Maybe I'm spoiled with the other pickups. LOL!
