Any guitar magazines worth subscribing to right now?

I used to have a guitar world subscription for something like $12/year and I would basically only read the TABs in it. Seems like their songs they TAB out havent been as good as older mags. I have since moved so I let that subscription run out.

What guitar magizines do you think I should subscribe to improve my playing?

Tone Quest was the last worthwhile mag I was able to find, but it's been a few years since I've read so it could have gone down hill since then. There's tons of free material online to improve playing and lots of free tab.

Guitar Techniques is the only guitar magazine worth buying, IMHO. It's got a lot of great lessons and exercises in it.

I subscribe on my iPad. Decent read, not sure I'll re-up the subscription though.

Imo no, i feel you can always find better, more complete information and reviews online (forums, youtube etc..)

I don't think so. I had a trial for guitar player free for 6 months recently...only read the first couple articles in the fires few, rest stacked up and hit the recycle bin. I don't see the point in killin trees when you can get all of the content online. I have no use for any mag these days

I was getting Guitar World and Premier Guitar for a couple years on my iPad. Recently cancelled.
It's just progressively gotten to be more of paid advertisement and endless pages of 5 star gear reviews whether it'd budget gear or out-of-reach expensive.

Guitar Player and Vintage Guitar still have some good stuff in them. GP has the fantastic Jesse Gress lesson section each month, and VG has great collection photos and album reviews. Guitarist UK is also a lovely magazine, but expensive over here. Those are my 3 current favorites.

I agree that Premier Guitar has become a boring paid advertisement-fest.

Not much there IMO. If there are, I welcome it!!!

You would be better off going on ebay and finding Guitar For The Practicing Musician or Guitar World back issues from back in the eighties. Everything today sucks.

A magazine published in the UK called "Guitarist". Seriously the BEST mag I've ever read on our fave topic... Excellent reviews, music, interviews, and a high quality layout that's second to none.

Check it out, you won't be disappointed. Get a 1 year subscription to save some money, a 2 year to save even more, www.musicradar.com/guitarist and www.facebook.com/GuitaristMagazine

Peace

GFTPM was my favorite!
I used to try to play thru every transcription whether I knew the song or not. It was well before the days you could just pull up a song on Spotify, iTunes, or YouTube to play along. It was always interesting to finally hear the song eventually and see how close or far off I was, haha.

Guitarist UK is head and shoulders above other mags in quality, IMO. That is what a magazine should look like.

Ive noticed that premier guitar does not give thier paper subscribers lessons anymore, and limits its gear reviews.Only the onliners get thier lessons..That would probably go down as being a bit unfair to paper guys.I agree, everythings goin online these days and all ya have to do is tap your notebook/ipad,smartphone,ect and you have it......well, not exactly.Where i live, there is extremely limited internet access-not even satellites can give us a good signal. No one can afford cable service and were out in woods, to put it mildly.Depending on the type of day, like today I can leave a post.Anways, call it old fashioned, but one thing I like bout paper is i get 3 subscriptions as gifts every year, and give them as gifts too.And they are great reads( and for company) sittin on the coffee table. What are the quality magazines/ezines these days?..check em all out and see.
