Another one of those hobbies I have a love/hate relationship with. Haven't shelved it yet, but it seems to be dying the slow death of attrition along with it's base.

I'm not but I feel I should

If there is an apocalypse/WWIII/civil war/solar flair/neutron pulsar/volcano/earthquake some day we could be back to these right?

It's a huge "what if?" subject of controversy.

I'm certainly not the electronics communication expert. But the world depends on a different infrasctructure than the ones in place even 30 yrs ago. Satellites and cellular type telecom has taken the place terrestial and transoceaninc hard line and propogation dependant HF radio.

Based on what little I know, I believe in a purely hypothetical way that should a natural or man-made event/disaster take out vast portions of the geosynchronous satellite and ground based cellular/digital telecom infrastructure, old tech HF, VHF & UHF radio spectrum will be very handy. That is depending on how much of that old equipment still exists and not destroyed due to EMP or very strong solar flare.
