I have the POD HD300 but I wonder if the Pod Farm might be better for recording. I like the tones I get with the HD but it be way more convenient to have it all software based. I heard some clip on YT and it sounded pretty good. Just thought I'd check with you knuckle-heads as well.

Yes sir. I have loads of videos and all of my records I have put out have been using POD Farm if you are curious as too the sound quality. Love it. Just have to put in some time dialing things in and EQ'ing correctly. Check the sig if you want samples/clips.

I do believe your 5150 clip on YT was the one that made me consider it. I run Logic Express 9 on an iMac and would rather not have to use the external hardware. Thanks for the quick response and nice job on the Pod Farm tones.

I've been thinking about getting a POD UX1 or UX2 and just using POD Farm to use for songwriting and as a riff library. Probably not for full blown production at this point... I'm guessing I would want to spend a little more money for quality's sake once I reach that point.

Do you already have a USB interface? As of the last revision of POD Farm, you can now use any interface you want.

Just FYI.

I don't. I have absolutely no recording gear at all at this point.

I didnt know you needed a line6 interface at one point. I use a Focusrite Saffire. Better check and make sure I can use it.

If you have POD Farm 2.5 (free update from 2.0) then you will be good.

I use it. I like it better than any of the others I tried including Guitar Rig 4, Amplitude,Revalver and various amp Plugins.

I do all of my non-amp reviews (guitars, pickups, etc.) using POD Farm and make the patches freely available so everyone can download and try the same settings with their own guitar/pickups and compare.

Bear in mind the fact that if you use your HD300, all the audio processing is being done in the unit and not on your Comps CPU. This free's up tons of processing for proper playback on conversions and running other needed plugins like compressors and eq's. It isnt a big deal if your only doing simple tracking, but if you going full on, you will soon learn how much processing power you need to run 4 guitar plugins (line 6, guitar rig, amplitube etc). Pops and clicks start happening and you can bump into pretty big problems, even with high end machines.

Using the outboard hardware takes a lot of that out of the picture. I recently got a line 6 HD bean, and love it simply for that matter alone. A lot of the time running, say, guitar rig, i would have to record the track with just the guitar direct in, then, route the track output to a separate track. the playback the track with the plugin running and record that on the second track. It was just a giant pain in the ass. But if i ran the plugins on 4 guitar tracks, a bass track or 2, then start adding in the EQ and comps need etc, it would just drop out, and my comp isn't a piece of shit either, it's pretty decent.

This is also just my experience, it may not be yours or others here, just giving you another perspective before you make a move.

I love my UX2! on right now... scratch demo's late at night with the Farm...

I have the POD Farm... it's okay for the money. I prefer Waves plugs and Amplitube. Guitar Rig is on number 5 and getting rave reviews too.

Glad to hear you like it. I'm thinking that is the direction I'm going to go to get started. I can always spend more later if I start getting serious... I really just need something better than my phone to start saving riffs and songs so I don't forget them.

I'm seriously tech challenged in the recording dept... Pro tools actually give me nightmares... lol...

UX2/with included gear box, and Sony Acid is always on, always child simple to throw down tracks with.. and cheap...

It's VERY ok, cos' it's free ! :)

Also, I found the amplifiers are little better in Pod Farm than in Guitar Rig.
For the effects, Guitar Rig is better... Well, depend on what sound are you searching for...

I paid 50 bucks for mine, but that was awhile back.

I'm a fan. Don't get me wrong, I prefer a good tube amp but for convenience Pod Farm is great. Plug into your audio interface and play.

I did a head to head a couple of months back between all of them. Pod Farm, Amplitube, Revalver, Guitar Rig, Metal Amp Room, and some other obscure ones. I disabled the cab sims using only the amps and ran the same Redwire cabs.

The result? Pod Farm wins. Best tone across comparable amp models, and best user interface. I'll underscore that. Pod Farm has the best user interface by far. Some are really dismal.

The only good competitor I found was a free one, TSE X50. It's great! But it only does a couple of tones.

That said, the cab sims in Pod Farm are terrible. I mean, pitiful. Use the amp models and effects but disable the cab sims and use Redwire or another set. For me the cab sims in Pod Farm are so bad they make it overall sound bad. But bypass them and use something else for cabs and it's the best overall software based modeler today IMO.
