I tried what I think is a 2008 101B today and it blew away the memories of one I owned in '98. First off, I could definitely get a great tight "Djnt" metal attack in the red channel, with the gain at about half/1 O'Clock, no boost. My '98 would get too muddy after about 2 O'Clock on the red channel for heavy muted downpicking. Never liked that amp in general for that kind of metal. Secondly the clean channel sounded great when maxed out for biting semi-dirty rock rhythms (Humbucker or SC alike). The '98 always sounded like ass when you maxed the clean channel. It would break up in a very gritty un-musical way that made it only good for crystal clean settings. Could it be this amp has been modded or did Bogner continue to tweak and change these amps over the years. I know there was the change in gain available for the red channel in 2004 but didn't know about anything else.
One thing that hadn't changed was the tone of the mids when you get the knob above 12 O'Clock on CH 2&3. It's definitely makes the notes more prominent but not in a rich way. It always seems to sound best at 12 O'Clock or a little lower. Can you get the effect of more mids with an external EQ succesfully as I'm worried the amp may not cut well at 12 O'Clock or less in a mix?
