My go-to pick has been A Wegen Fatone 5mm for awhile now. But lately i've been really intrigued by the Ultex.
One of my students handed a 1mm to me. Instantly i noticed this material really SLICE the strings, nice bite catching onto the strings. I can get that Paul Gilbert swooshing scratch with fast picking with these picks.
So I went out and bought a batch of the various Ultex, some round and some sharp points, ranging from 1mm to 2mm.
First, who measure the thickness of these picks? they're totally not consistent from one batch to another. The 1mm round i got is way thicker than the 1mm sharp.
Anyway, will review some more when I get more playing time with them in the studio today.
Love to hear what you guys think of these?
I'm looking to try the Dunlop JP Signature too, which is made from Ultex as well. anybody rocking those?

I use Ultex Sharp, 1 or 1.14 mm. Stiff, precise, gripable. I love them.

Benn using a standard 2mm for a while. Was using the Wegen Dippers. So far so good.

Used to be a mega user. Ya, I love 'em, er...loved them. Great plectrums.

I noticed this as well. I used some digital calipers, and they actually WERE really close. Perhaps it's just a percieved thing, based on flexibility of one batch to another?

Ultex Jazz3 love em!!!!

+1. I like the Tortex Jazz III's also.

I bought a pack of the JP's and tried them for a bit. I am used to the Jazz III size so I had a hard time getting used to them even though they are not that much bigger. Nice and slippery on the strings though.

I could literally bend the 1mm sharp, while the 1mm round was unbendable. Have to check it out with calipers.

Can you guys buy the JPs at GC? In Canada, stuff like this is so hard to get. to make it worse, Dunlop wouldn't let MF and others online stores ship to Canada.

I switched to Ultex a few years back. Snappy and brighter then Tortex. Still practice with Tortex (cheaper), and find I like the new black type better than the ol standard blue ones I used for 20 years.

I switch between the 1.14 and the Jazz III depending on what style I am playing.

Bought some JPs...tried them for a few days. Tossed. My Gravity pick 3mm kills it for smoothness and control.

If anyone wants some JPs just let me know. I have a bunch that I am not using.

What about Steve's music?

Do you have a L&M in T.O.?? I used to live in T.O., YEARS ago... Steve's was always the place for the good stuff, I'm sure things have changed. Honestly if it's too much grief man, just eBay the goods.

I personally hate the Ultex picks.......but funny you mention the inconsistency. I have some .90mm and 1.0mm sharps laying around and the 1.0mm is much thinner. It's really not even close. Makes me think they are just pressing these and marking them as their best sellers

Love the Ultex Sharps. I usually grab the 1.4mm's and haven't noticed any consistency issues as of yet.

Yes, I frequent and shop at all those stores you mentioned. They're pretty good stocking SOME stuff, usually more mainstream shit like Jazz III, there's an abundance of those. It's not like it used to be, they can't keep a big inventory anymore.

Same here. I had the same issue with the ultex 2.0 picks as well (plus they had a weird concave-like gripping surface. Really threw me off). Back to the ultex Jazz III I go! If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
