There used to be a huge thread at the old Harmony Central Amp Forum. A guy had paid in advance for an amp and never got it. The forum roasted Zwengel like crazy. I had a Zwengel Banshee at the time and quickly got rid of it after I read that thread. I think Carl's business went under in a few months because of it. I just heard from a midwest buddy today that knew him. He told me that Carl is now doing time for child exploitation and forwarded me the link below. And you guys thought Cameron was the biggest POS in the amp world.
I bought one of his amps(the Banshee) in 2002 or so directly from him. I was hoping it could replace my old Marshall 2203 but with a clean channel. It was a pretty nice amp for the time but wasn't aggressive enough for me, I had Scott Splawn rebuild my old Marshall 2203 then I sold the Zwengel, I actually got alot of compliments on the tone when we were playing out using the Zwengel, the clean channel was great and the distortion channel just lacked IMO but it did have it's own tone... I guess I would describe it as kind of HiFi'ish SLO tone without the gain or the aggression, it had just a smidge more gain than a 2203 if I remember correctly, I took the Banshee back to him to tweak it some once, and he changed out some resistor and cap values to make it more of what I wanted but I still did not prefer it to my Splawn mod. He wanted to see inside the Splawn to see what Scott was doing but I never took it to him.
Carl was a little weird but I would never have suspected that kind of behavior, wow!!
I've seen his amps pop up every now and then on Ebay and such and I think there it a YouTube video of a guy playing one.
