Anybody Know These Members?

Hey Rig Talkers,

I just had the strangest interaction this morning.
I was contacted by a member "Reece453" responding to my WTB ad for a Friedman PT20 with a clean channel.
He pointed me to a "member" "Scooter602" that supposedly had an ad up for the amp I was looking for.
An email for this person was provided.

I emailed the person and asked for pics and info.
The price on the amp was SUPER high. $2700. I immediately said thanks, but we're too far apart on the price.
She asked what my price range was and that it was negotiable... She immediately dropped the price $1k and sent her "husband's" paypal address.

Well... I can't find a trace of Scooter602, nor an ad for this amp anywhere.
ALSO... "Reece453", who contacted me, just joined yesterday when the email was sent to me.

I asked for references or a reference to a valid forum screen name, and nothing could be provided as the husband is supposedly in the hospital.

Too many red flags for me to move forward.

Anybody know these people? Something fishy... Or am I being overly paranoid?

That screams scam to me all the way around. Especially suspicious they'd go from $2700 to $1k without any back and forth. I'm thinking somebody saw your WTB and decided to see if they could milk your wallet.

Yeah, I just saw a thread on TGP "Scam Alert" WTB ads being targeted.
One member described the exact scenario I just went through.

That only works if the rule is enforced but I would not do business with someone with 1 post.

Trying to think of a way to really catch people like this. Like, 'Hey I'm a stand up guy and just could not do a fellow musician like that at $1,000. How about $1,400 and mail you a check as I don't do paypal?' Think they'd be too smart for that?
