Just curious? I know it’s a budget head and I’m only using mine as a glorified power amp…but still…seems like it is a unit with tons of wasted potential.

if the circuit has the same topology as the 800 .... which I think I remember hearing back in the day ..... then you could essentially turn it into a JEL

Believe it does. Quick search showed a thread on the pv forum talking about an 800 mod as well as an Uber gain mod. Ax84 guys came up with the uber mod. Transformers are tiny…lol

Take this with a grain of salt as it I haven't done anything myself...
As Griff said its pretty much a JCM800 clone. So any 800 mods could more than likely be applied to the Windsor.

Yeah, I've heard that it's a great mod platform. I wouldn't mind having one that was modded to better specs.

Always wanted to mod a Windsor. FJA used to have a lot of fun with them. No doubt they need new iron which makes it cost ineffective. On a budget I guess you could put a used 5150 OT in one.

I got one…just saying…?

That’s the same pre as my ultra isn’t it? Maybe I should start learning how to tinker with this shit. Only on stuff with simple instructions that has been done and documented….

Yes they are. I have replumbed and rewired houses and all kinds of shit thanks to google….

the soldering iron is your friend ........ just make sure you have one foot barefoot in a bucket of water when checking to see if there's any voltage left in the amp .....

I had fun building a kit amp and am currently working on a second. If you're handy with a soldering iron it might be something to look into. A couple of places have really good, detailed instructions to follow.

I don’t know how much they go for now, but you used to see them for $200-300, at which price even replacing the iron doesn’t make it a bad deal as a mod platform.

I can now competently install a pickup so I won’t say I’m handy with a soldering iron. Really the opposite. Won’t know until I try though…lol…

Mailman had one that Jerry modded. It was killer.
