I normally sing and play acoustic. people seem to like it. I play pretty lively acoustic guitar.

I once saw a female folk singer using a Gibson hollowbody with P-90's and a little amp.

That was it, plus her great singing. I thought it kicked ass.

Should I try Gretsch Setzer + Mesa Blue Angel + vocals tonight? experimental gig? I mean, I only get paid about $50 + tips for this happy hour thing.

i say give it a shot...should be more than adequate equipment for the job !

I could see getting away with a hollowbody with a clean tone because that would produce a fairly "fat" acoustic type tone, but I would be careful what electric I used. A strat or tele might come off sounding thin. :aww: I depend solely on my Larrivee for solo acoustic performances.

j/k :D

Jeff Buckley did some numbers with a Tele and vocals, that sounded pretty good.
I`ve always played the acoustic when performing like that. The acoustic is more "responsive" and percussive to that kinda stuff, to my ears :)

I have also flirted with the idea of using an electric instead of an acoustic for solo shows. I have yet to do it because I don't think it will work well without a hollow bodied guitar, and I don't own one. I have seen solo performers use hollow bodied guitars and I thought it worked very well. It was a nice change of pace from just the acoustic.
