Been looking at one of these. They market "American Twang", "snappy & woody" tone, which is more Strat than I care for, but, does it get a beefier tone with the mahogany?? I do prefer a beefier tone, for sure, and play more thrash & drop-D.

It's my understanding that the tuners, electronics & bridge are import, and pickups USA?

I just got a new 2016 SG Standard T, and it's going back. Poorly cut nut, & 2 bum tuners. I can get another one, but in the past 4 years, I've bought 4 SG's, and only one was a keeper. The other 3 sucked, big time. I'm kinda shying away from Gibson.. My S2 Singlecut with upgraded pickups killed, and I SO regret selling it for an SG. Live and learn, but I'm not buying another S2 at almost $1500 now, and today's used market sucks ass with most peoples' delusional asking prices. I sold mine for $839 with upgraded pickups, Tonepros bridge, & hardshell case. And even at 25% lower than what most were asking, (for quick sale), 22 people "watched" it at that price for 2 weeks. Chumps.

A USA SC245 is WAY more than I want to spend, and used, again, people want top fucking dollar. A Les Paul Studio seems like the obvious choice.

I have a 2016 CE24. It's great. Its got a nice fat tone. Not twangy. You can split the bridge humbucker for strat tones. I sold my Les Paul and American strat after getting it because it killed both of them and bought another PRS, a custom 24. I don't think you'll be disappointed with a CE24. I got the Trampas Green from AMS for 1599 as a scratch and dent but it was perfect. They have an amber for 1399 now.

So, is it safe to say it is beefier sounding than a Strat?? Don't get me wrong, I dig Strat tones, and the ability to achieve them, but I want chunk too.

I hear they stay in tune like a champ. That's one thing about the S2, I could play and beat the shit out of it for hours, and never touch a tuner.

Yes beefier sounding than a Strat. Stays in tune great. That's why I got rid of the Les Paul.Fucking thing would not stay in tune for shit.

Yeah, definitely beefier than a Strat, but not as much as a Custom 22 or 24. You can get pretty decent single coil tones from them, but I don't think they sound anything like a Strat (not a good or a bad thing, just different). They have a bolt on maple neck, but that's pretty much where the similarities to strats end, in my opinion. Some of the earlier ones had Alder bodies ('94 and earlier, I believe), and those sounded more Fender-ish for sure.

They're really well built guitars, stay in tune well, and sound great!

I would also check out the suhr modern satin if you haven't done so yet.

I went for a Les Paul Traditional. Couldn't pass up the deal on a brand new old stock 2016. And, flamed maple honeyburst is the sex.

Do it. I got one of the newer ones from Sweetwater back in October. It's been my main ever since. Definitely thicker and beefier than a strat, but you can still clean it up beautifully.
The hardware is Korean made (same as the S2 line), and the pick ups are USA made 85/15's...which are probably my favorite pick ups in any of my guitars.
Don't be afraid because the tuner and bridge are made in Korea...it takes nothing away from this awesome guitar.

I have a reclaimed wood CE24 :D Love it!

Nice! Here'e my CE24 on the right and Custom 24 on the left. The CE24 is my workhorse, kind of afraid to take the custom 24 out of the house.

The new CE's are decent but for $2000 I expect more than a bolt on neck, non-recessed back covers, CE overseas hardware and a gig bag.

The few I have played were good guitars, just not $2000 guitars for the cheapness factors PRS took.

Who's paying $2000? Deals to be had if you just look. I don't care where the hardware was made. The thing is a player right out of the box. Beats paying 2k for a new Gibson that needs the nut cut or replaced to even be playable.
