Anybody spent any time with an LP Axcess?

I'm a Jackson guy and while I've had a few LPs they always end up as dust-collectors as I'm so used to having a Floyd under my right hand. And so I find myself kind of tempted by the Axcess, even though I can't get over how they can put a lower-end Floyd on a CS guitar. The thing is that I'm not sure if the change in neck pitch will just make it feel like a 'clunky' Jackson rather than an LP with a Floyd. If that makes sense?

It's pretty much between this and a PRS Tremonti right now (even though that doesn't have a Floyd - contradictory eh?!)

I can't address your concerns about neck pitch and what not but but I have one and it's a great axe. I actually think it stays in tune better than my other Floyded guitars. Last gig I let some guy from the crowd come up and wail on the bar during one of my solos, I though the tuning was going to be shot but I didn't even need to touch the fine tuners. I wish they were full body thickness as a regular LP but all in all they are really nice.

Love it my main guitar never goes out of tune. Plays like a Les Paul. Easy to go crazy on.

I have had my Axcess for almost a year now. Love it and it is a keeper guitar! Floyd works great on it! I only changed out the stock pickups.

The other thing you could try is Les Paul Shred, they don't make em anymore but they do show up used time to time. I love mine, its a bigger 50's neck but still plays so damn good. Its chambered so its light for a LP too! Way cheaper and might be a better way to test if you like it. I love mine, I almost think I would sell my Std before Id let this go. All the best qualities of a LP plus a Floyd. Stays in tune great too. Comes in black and tobacco burst..mine is steller.

I really like mine, I've had many, many Les Pauls and this is my favorite.

One thing though, if you're really used to a Jackson neck, the Axcess neck may feel pretty big.

I had a Suhr Aldrich put in the bridge position which I like over the stock pickup.

Thanks for the replies guys - I guess I've never checked, but I have been assuming that the 'standard' Axcess has a 60's type neck.

I considered the 'shred' when I first saw them but was just amazed that they used the 50's neck. Maybe I'm out of touch, but I'd have thought that most of the LP guys who'd want a Floyd, and most of the Floyd guys who want a LP would be the guys who want thinner necks...

The neck is surprisingly big. It's not a 60's neck. Very comfortable neck to play on, the cutaway is great.

I have a 2014 and the neck is perfect 60's shape, it has a 498 in the bridge and it sounds great so far no reason to change it out. Think of a Charvel and a les paul had a kid, best of both. Just my 2 cents.

I got one of the Shred LP studios. I have no problem with 50s neck, doesn't seem to slow me down at all. I don't think it has been mentioned in this thread yet, the shred models have Richlite fretboards. They remind me of the composite boards on Parker Fly and Composite Acoustic guitars. Not a bad thing to me but some players would rather save up for ebony or rosewood.

I don't know the model number but I did see some newer LPs that had Floyds last week at Guitar Center. They were new, not expensive enough to be the Axcess models (these were around $2300). Looked like they had binding. Maybe they were left over Gibson Trad Pro IIs from 2014?

Thanks for that - I never heard of the Trad II (can't keep up with all the iterations of LPs LOL), and unfortunately there are none with Floyds showing on the GC website.

There's a 2008 on ebay for what is right now a decent price, but I have no idea if the neck profile has 'evolved' over time - I emailed Gibson and they just told me it has a 'rounded' neck profile which was obviously extraordinarily helpful...

The only thing I don't care for on the Shred is the edges of the Richlight board are not rounded, pretty sharp angle. Anyone know if richlight can be worked on to soften the edges? How would one do this, what material to cut them down?

Aren't they making a tradional with a floyd now as well? The 498T is one of my favorite pickups in a Les Paul. Very chunky sounding with great note to note string seperation. High output but not too much. Anyway, if I had a Les Paul with a floyd, I'd probably never play anything else!

It's the most user friendly LP I've ever played, but like most LPs, it's missing something.

I recommend you go with the Tremonti. PRS trems do a nice job of staying in tune, and you'll like the thin Tremonti neck. And you can't beat the playability.

Humm, pretty sure GC Cincinnati has one of those Floyd Traditionals, I have a friend there, can check if you like.

If you could, that'd be great, thanks! I just searched the GC Cincinnati page and couldn't find anything.. John here is selling a desertburt, but unfortunately I'm not a fan of that finish..

One thing I've had happen is a small line show up at the neck joint. I debated sending it to Gibson to look at it but im pretty sure its just a finish crack. With the Floyd I was kind of freaked and pissed but it doesn't seam to be a problem.
Now I'm sure the neck will break off in my hand at the next gig

I had a beautiful red tiger stripe version of the Axcess several years back. Supposedly it was only one of two made at the time. Mine developed the exact same crack about 6 months after I bought it. Was really upset. Mine was a bit worse then yours. I ended up taking it back to the dealer and they gave me a fair refund for it. My newest Axcess has been perfect with no issues.

The GC in Long Island City NY has a beautiful black one for $1799. I was tempted to talk to them about trading my 2014 goldtop Signature T for it.
