Anybody try an Orange Dual Dark?

I know Orange ain't exactly boutique for all you amp snobs on here. :thumbsup:

I don't know much about Orange. Currently I have a Boogie MKV and I'm just not finding it has the tone I'm looking for really. I'm a metal, thrash, downtune type of guy and the thing just doesn't seem to have the gain that I am looking for. I haven't tried EL34s in it yet though, but I feel that this isn't going to make a huge difference in the tone based on my research and other threads on the boogie forum. I don't really play clean stuff either.

In the videos I've watched of the Orange amp, it seems it has a lot more gain than the MKV. I have tried a boost pedal in front of the amp, a Voodoo, sparkle drive with the 3 mod I did to it, but I'm just not feeling the amp anymore.

Wondering what y'all think.

What settings do you use on the Mark V? Dream Theater, Chevelle, LoG, BTBAM, and Dillinger are all bands that use/have used Marks. I had a Mark IV and it was perfect for thrash.

The Orange Dual Dark is one of those awesome sounding amps that also sounds like it would get completely drowned out in a two guitar band. Maybe not, but I played it, and it was crushing, but had way too much gain, and just seemed like it would become a fuzzy mess in a high gain band context like a lot of Oranges. It's also super expensive for the features you get. You could by a Rhodes Orthos, Engl Savage, or a Mesa Roadking for basically the same price.

If you don't play clean stuff I would sell the Mark and look into the new Rhodes Ares. It's a single channel, but dual Master amp. (ie two high gain sounds possible)

EDIT: Also have to mention that I didn't boost the Dual Dark, so boosting it may help focus it.
 
I did not get to play it but I did stand right next to it when a guy in a metal band was using it. I noticed it was a DD100 n it sounded badass !!!
 
Sounds cool from what I've heard. I'm really liking the OR100 out of the current lineup.
 
Yep, I sort of wish I got to try one of these out before buying my MKV
