I've got MF rewards, ($200), and Line 6 has $100 off on these. My tried and true RP1000 that I've had for 8 years needs retired. Thinking of going back to pedals, but been looking at the HX Effects.. Sorta Interested in the Stomp XL, just to have some modeling for headphones, or even run into the loop return to see if the high gain tones are any good. If so, I'd even consider a stereo power amp and go digital since I'm relegated to home use these days.

Thoughts? I've gotten rid of alot of stuff, including 2 heads, and 2 guitars, hanging on to the SG '61. Back to using a Randall RD45H I picked up for $400. Retubed it, and it actually sounds phenomenal. I've had a few, they never disappoint. Real sleepers with good tubes/bias. Still unemployed, so I cut back.

I’ve used the Stomp XL for most of my gigs the last two years in various formats. Either in the return of a backline amp for travel dates, for effects only with my amps and yes… as a very expensive tuner just for my AC/DC tribute.

Great unit.

I think the HX stomp, stomp XL, and Helix are all great, but I've never used the FX

I'm guessing it's probably solid as most of the line is

I prefer the kemper for recorded tones, but I think all of the big three modelers have their strengths. If you don't need dry-thru the HX stomp is a fantastic multi-effects unit, even without the modeling tone versatility

I've never had the XL version but the regular Stomp is one of the most bang for the buck pedals you can get. Especially at used prices. Great effects tone. Some of the amps sound pretty good into a power amp fed into a real guitar cab. Fits into a gig bag pocket and sounds great into headphones for late night jamming.

How many effects do you use? Do you use a lot of types, or many different settings/presets?

I have been going through this also. I like having multi-effect units where everything is one box, but I have really been thinking about how I really only use about 2 settings, so I am starting to wonder if just having the individual effects would make more sense.

Mostly preset mode. Reverb, delay, chorus, some flange, some phaser. Some with up to 3 effects or so in a single patch. I don't use any modeling, but thought for headphone use, it might come in handy. The RP with headphones isn't great, and the unit is just big and clunky, (and dated).

Gigged an HX Effects for several years, for the money they're tough to beat. Effects are all good. As with any multi fx, there's always a small tradeoff - there are better examples of each type of effect in standalone pedals, but then you lose the utility of having it in one box, plus the advantage of a decent user interface for edits.

I've kinda retired mine, mostly due to its size, and because one of the internal daughter board connectors has a tendency to become loose over time and I got tired of taking it apart to tighten it lol.

It's really handy to have the modeling around just as a backup, for sure.

If you're using that many effects at once, it's almost always a good shout to use a multi-fx unit like the HX

i wondered if I could do it without covering the contacts :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Its just a molex style clip, correct? White or black ....should work to keep it from separating.

🤷🏻‍♂️

In a past life I carried a glue stick in my tools, just for this ....either that or bend 2 legs, a little, to create some spring like tension, sometimes I did both. To save my customers a return trip, as I billed $150/ hr for service. Saved us both a lot of time and money.
