Anybody using the Weber BR-4 BIAS RITE? How is it? Cheap or worth the $$?

It’s a good unit. Worth the money. The actual bias (if checked with a dmm) is lower by 1-2 ma if I recall correctly vs what is shown on the digital read out (due to a resistor in the bias rite). So just up the bias by 1.0 ma. Good unit though.

If I'm not mistaken, the actual bias is lower than what is displayed with these types of devices because you are reading the plate current + the screen current.
Screen current is only 1 or 2 ma, so not a big deal, but it's there.
These types of bias testers are absolutely the safest way to check whats going on in your amp.
I'm using an AMP-Head model, but I think they are out of business. I'm probably going to pull the trigger on one of these Weber versions as well. I like the idea of having 4 sockets vs the 2 on my Amp-Head.

I use one and it’s good. Honestly, the transformer shunt method is easiest though.

What's the 'transformer shunt method'?

If you don’t understand it, don’t do it. You can get shocked badly.

Please don't try this if you don't know what you are doing!!!!

You need a high quality DMM as well. You will be shunting the full B+ voltage through the meter.

And as an added bonus, if one of the leads slips off the target point by accident, you can do some arc welding inside your amp too

Asolutely not recommended for in-experienced amp tinkerers, that's for sure!

Uh no. I won't be trying this.

I've been using one since learning about amps needing to be biased!! great unit!

I like the eurotuves version better. Cheaper and even easier to use.
