I know, very broad and not asking for anyone to say one is better than the other just looking for anyone that's been able to compare the 2. I'm amp shopping sorta and Where I am it's impossible to try either. I really like Jerry's atomica from the clips but I LOVE Marshall's so I'm really digging the mods that BFG is putting out!
I have made the mistake more than once of getting an amp that's supposed to be a better version of a marshall only to find out I miss the original Too much. I know you say why not just get a marshall but ideal tone would be thick high gain, super articulate, not dark. I love the Cali mod and would love to own one but I don't think financially it would be in the cards, Same with the Friedman mods, not to mention all of the friedman mods sound awesome but seem to focus on lower mids so I fear may not be bright enough for the cut I'm after.
Even thought of a Fryette deliverance because of the clarity, and articulation but I'm sure they would be a bit different than the marshall mids, I just knew I could snag one pretty cheap and they seem very dynamic but prob too modern still. Anyway lot of info

Well I'm obviously Surreal Biased!

Now having said that, and owning an AKA, and a VHT Pittbull CL....

Honestly talk to both Brian and Jerry, set aside some time and have a good conversation about what you Exactly want. I have NO experience with BFG stuff, but FOR ME< I would go with Surreal again because I like the more classic wide open Plexi thing the AKA does. I agree the Friedman stuff sounds, "Thick?!" to me, I like that Plexi edge. BFG's sound to me like real monster gain machines which is good, but not my cup oh' tea. My AKA can be sleepy old school Plexi, or Jose pulled 80's madness, but that's whay Jerry did with MY amp. It cut's killer in a mix, and I can run up volume because of the 50 watts. Again depends on what you want. Either builder will tweek to tastes.

Go play a VHT, it's gonna be love or hate. Can be perceived as a dry, unforgiving amp. VERY articulate. Open gain, Like a Hiwatt on steroids. Great overtones, responsive controls. Will you like that? I like my CL because I think the 34's and Tube rectifier make it very versatile.

Yeah man a lot to look over I suppose. I had a Sig x in the past that I liked but would rather have had something more Aggressive at the time. I guess I'm looking for something pretty tight and pissed off with some vintage flavor

Also remeber JErry's are ground up designs, and the Classic Modern of his runs 66's, anothe tighter flavor. I'd start with some phone calls to the guys!

To bad your not in Cali...
