Anyone dig the Soldano Hot Rod?

I've been thinking of picking up a Soldano Hot Rod 50/50+ for an alternative amp to use for gigs and band practices. I love my 100 watt Fortin Cali mod, but would like the opportunity to use something else from time to time. Will the Hot Rod even hold a candle to the Cali Mod? I've never had the opportunity to play one, but have always been curious.

Thanks
Bob T.

I thought my hr 50+ sounded great, buy one under 1100 and you will be good.

i had two running stereo in the mid 90's. loved them. they were the reason i gave up rack gear and went back to guitar-head-cab.

don't have any comparison to the fortin cali stuff, though....that makes me sad.

hotrod 50+ is just a single channel version of the SLO lead channel, is it not? i get confused which model is not the same as the SLO. i know either the hot rod 50, or the 50+ is not the same as the lead channel of a SLO - one of those buggers has its roots based on a yamaha amplifier Mike did years ago.

I have heard a hot rod 50+ live and like others have said they sound great, but it is not my cup of tea though. i would consider a SLO if you have a fortin cali - more snarl and the clean channel being 180 degrees out of phase with the lead channel adds a really clean like gain to the OD channel that neither of the hotrod models have due to their single channel designs.

Not being a defensive fanboy, cause I got one, but from what I've read I think youve got some wrong info....
the HR's are based on the SLO lead channel. Suposedly, the only difference is the tranformers. neither based on the Yamaha amp he helped design. The + is two channel, not single.

Re original poster, I sold my Vintage Modern in a heartbeat, at a loss after playing my HR+.
It's a muscular Marshall tone, big mids, nice Chewy, articulate feel, that Soldano sizzle/presence thing going on. At lower volumes, gives ridiculous Mesa likr sustain.
One,of my keepers for sure.

No offense taken, the 50 and 50+ are supposed to have lead channel of the SLO the the 50+ an additional clean, you are right. but i do recall reading information saying the hotrod series could have or did have few component similarities, or have something in common with the yamaha T100/T50 which Mike Soldano did design during that same time period. I did some researching but i cant remember where i read this from so please ignore my rambling if you would like

i do remember reading this somewhere, wouldnt make it up off the top of my head - not trying to start anything either, just food for thought.

I have a cali and a hr50. They are very different. Hard to beat the hotrod when boosted.

Great info. Wish i had the coin for a Slo, but the Fortin has been my main amp for gigging. I have an original CCV 100, but at this point I can't see taking this into the shit holes we play in.

The Hot Rod 50 is a great sounding amp. Well build, solid, a great workhorse.

I've had a HR50,HR50+ and a SLO. The Rods have more of a "pissed off 800" vibe to them than the SLO. All are killer. The good thing with the 50's is that you can crank 'em right up.
