Anyone else buy from GC online, and the total changes after you pay?

Picked up a guitar today out of the GC used section, and paid instantly through Paypal. Got the confirmation email, but never looked at it and went to doing other things tonight. Checked out the confirmation email a little bit ago, and the total price in the email is about $30 higher than what came out of my Paypal account. I haven't gotten anything from GC about it, so I'm just going to wait and see what happens but if they try to add that $30 bucks on to what I've already paid.. they can shove that guitar right up the crack.

I've seen it. Check the tax rate. When shopping GC, the PayPal portion of the interface doesn't seem to always calculate the correct tax rate. It's not until the final confirmation page (back on the GC site, before you finalize) that you should see the final price with correct tax rate for your address.

I have never seen or heard of that but I also have only lived in States with no taxes on the stuff I've bought

Yeah, looking at it again this morning, the difference is the tax amount. I've had an account with GC forever, this isn't the first time I've ordered from them. LOL I've lived in my current state since well before the internet tax was implemented. So, it's not like GC shouldn't know the tax rate for my state and be able to calculate it accurately. So, as far as I'm concerned this is on them.

I don't think it's a problem with Paypal, as the total amount of the sale is calculated prior to picking your payment method. Then this amount would be transmitted to Paypal (or whatever payment method you're using) during the checkout process. The payment processor wouldn't be the one calculating the tax rate, they are just facilitating the payment transaction for "X" amount as calculated by GC. At least that's the way I understand it.

Been two days since I bought the guitar, and it still hasn't shipped. Looked this morning, and they have the tax thing figured out and ended up adding the difference back as a credit, so they figured that out without me having to mess with it. I did call them this morning though, to find out when it was going to ship since it's been two days and I had paid for 2 day shipping.. Guy on the phone was cool, and said they would be shipping today (hopefully) or Monday at the latest and they would still ship 2 day and then refund me the shipping charges. So, I'm cool with that.

Hopefully it makes it in one piece, and there isn't anything wrong with it when it gets here.

GC gets a lot of heat for lots of reasons but I still say, it’s a great place to find gear and sometimes the pre Covid prices still appear; just 2 weeks ago I scored an 88 2205 half stack for 1400 shipped. The cab is a rare 8 ohm slant with the early Marshall Vintage speakers. Sounds killer.
But, the very next day someone scored HUGE and found an original DRG C+ for 1400. It was marked as a Mark 1 reissue.
Score.

gc sucks the big one.
Yep, they sure do. Fuck them. Not because of $30, but they send you used shit as new, have huge sales for items that are "preorder", then change the price when they get stock and blow up your credit card doubling the price.

I had a Thrasher 50 on pre-order for $1022 for months. When they came in, they tried to charge me $2099. Bait and switch artists. Fuck them. I'll never do business with them ever again.

And they never respond to inquiries on used gear, don't return phone calls, etc. They are a shitty business.

Yeah, I can't argue with that. I don't think I've ever had them return an email inquiry, and I'm thinking they are about 50/50 on sending pics when I've called them. What sucks for me is that in my neck of the woods, the used market pickin's can be pretty slim for anything other than your basic "pawn shop" type gear. So, unfortunately I have to deal online for anything that's decent. GC's return policy is pretty good so I take my chances with them from time to time. Not to say that they haven't pissed me off a time or ten.. LOL

Don’t buy new gear; so I’d have no experience with that. All my vintage amps/guitars wipe the floor with any new offering so I’m completely uninterested.
However, with used stuff, in today’s market you snooze you lose. Calling or emailing them on something that might be a great deal only assures you lose out to the next guy, who smartly buys while understanding that if it’s not what he wants, he’ll have to return it-where he’ll eat the shipping. Amps/guitars that show up with pre Covid pricing are gonzo within 2 hours these days.

That's all fine and dandy, but I don't buy blindly without some sort of dialog. People that don't respond to emails or phone calls are more likely to drag their feet shipping. Hell, I bought a pair of 6L6's from them because I had rewards points last year, and they didn't ship for almost a week. I had to call and say WTF before they boxed it up.

GC used gear prices are as retarded as what's on Reverb. Didn't used to be. I purchased a Cornford Hellcat from GC... They tossed it in a box with a few chunks of styrofoam, and let it roll.
