Anyone familiar with these? It’s an sm-57 knock off that sells for $20 or so on Amazon. I got one a few months back along with a tc helicon go solo interface just as a way to easily mic my cab. While the recordings sound 1,000x better than using my iPhone mic, it still doesn’t sound as good as others’ videos. Obviously since I have a sum total of less than $50 invested into my recording rig I wasn’t expecting miracles…
So my question is what if any is going to be more worth the upgrade expense? The mic or the interface? I don’t want to drop $100 or $200 on a mic or interface if it’s going to sound the same through this interface and vice versa. I also have the attention span of a field mouse so the tc helicon is great cause it’s so simple to use.
Here’s an example of a recent recording. I’m mixing the cab right up against the grill cloth just about dead center of the speaker. I’ve tried moving it further away and it doesn’t help. I set the preamp gain at 5 (out of 10) which with a decent amount of volume is just before it clips.
