What exactly is ghosting or ghost notes on an amp? I read it here and there and I have an idea of what it could be but not 100% sure.

Although I've been playing for >20 years

Does someone have a clip or good explanation of ghosting? Clip preferred.

I've gotten it with my old Super Lead occasionally. Usually at pretty high volumes. It sounds like you're running an octaver.

Thanks man. Does it mean the ghosting is in a clean octave? Is it same volume on all notes or only on certain resonance frequencies?

Anyone else got some info or a recording of it?

If by clean octave you mean it's exactly an octave above, then no. It's not precise. But the best way I can describe it is if you have an octaver on, but the effect level set kind of low. Yes it resonates more on some frequencies than on others. If it makes any difference, it went away after I recapped the amp a few months ago.

Dude....you need the "Amp Whisperer", Gary (glip22). He's a keen ear for those ghost notes and exorcised them right out of a Wizard before. Send him a PM...

In my experience ghostnotes are mostly lower than the actual played note and they are delayed a bit. Mostly noticeable in the higher regions on the neck.

I don't know the technical explanation for it but it has to do with the (under)filtering of the powerline in the amp (which explains why Vrad's ghosting :-) went away after a cap change; old caps tend to get a lower capacity so to speak)

  Yes Ghost notes occur at higher volumes. They are acurately described above. Most annoying to me. There is a very fine line with filtering an amp's power supply. If you filter too much the amp will be stiffer and punchier. Not enough and the amp feels great but will ghost. It can make some amps almost unuseable, especially on the neck pickup. Other factors that contribute to it are poor lead dress which will give you crosstalk, and poor grounding. You can go insane chasing the ghosts. Most every amp I have had does it at high volumes. The well dressed and designed amps only do it very slightly which doesn't bother me.

Yo, dawg, it be like dis:

But wif a 'namp 'stead of an Escort, yo.

Is it possible that ghosting becomes more apparent when you use a delay and solo up the neck, so that the lower frequency ghosting is like noise filling out the lower frequencies while they should be empty/clean?

I have sth like this happening but I wonder if it's bad right hand/palm technique or the amp.

Yep, Mostly higher on the neck. It's the amp, not you. Trust me!!
