I found out i am not as patient as many when it comes to writing drum patterns with the piano roll and then using samples to create the beat. As a drummer, it seems so long and robotic. Even if you mess with the velocity, the feel isn't there because the timing is too perfect. So I ordered one of these Akai 218's for 140$ with 16 pads, velocity sensitive. The advantage is that because you are physically playing it, the slight out of time of your playing gives you a more human feel. Anyone else on this board doing that? How have you liked your results? I could have gone the E-kit route but that would only push my real kit further into storage and I want it around for when I want that feel. Because of how long it takes to set up and mic a real kit and then nail some good performances, it doesn't happen as often. This demo is what sold me on the approach. It seems to retain the human element as velocity and timing are dependent on your physical abilities:
