Wondering about these as I already have a VHT 4x12 FB with V30's. I like the VHT but its almost too tight, and directional and may have a trade. I'm looking at 212's for mobility reasons but if I'm essentially getting the same thing with half the speakers I'm thinking thatch may be a dumb move. What say RT?

I have the 4x12 and it is great. Thunderous really. But huge. When I quit using a trailer I stop taking it to gigs. I didn't find it too directional. No more than any closed back, non ported cab. And with the size not overly tight.

Thanks man for response. yeah I like the VHT but with the Fortin its just overkill in the tight department! Never thought id say that, but I like my marshall 1960B with x pattern more with the bones because its got that touch of sag but still plenty tight.

LOVE the ENGL Pro 212. Here's what I had said about it in the MusicPlayers.com review of the 580 pre/850 amp rack rig:

ENGL’s 2x12 Pro horizontal cabinet delivered a big, tight sound with lots of roundness and depth. We found it to be one of the larger sounding 2x12 cabinets that we’ve used, despite its compact size, delivering a sound that had the projection of a 4x12 but with the immediacy of a 2x12. We were also pleased by the sound of the ENGL rig through our Boogie 4x12, but the ENGL cabinet had the advantage of delivering stereo output at the flick of a switch on the rear jack plate.

I currently play through an ENGL Pro 412 and a Mesa/Boogie Recto Standard 212, both have V30s. When extra funds allow, I'm getting the ENGL 212 cab for my ENGL rig because the cabs sound amazing. Boogie cabs are fantastic, but manufacturers really tune their cabs to their own amps, and my Boogie cabs always sound best with Boogie amps, likewise my ENGL rig sounds best with the ENGL cabs.

I also really like that the ENGL 212 cab has huge recessed handles on each side -- makes carrying them much easier than the inadequate rubber strap-like handle on top of the Boogie 212.

I demo'd one and I thought it was a well built, nice sounding cab.

I have an Engl 2x12 w/ V30s ... love the cab. It is very tight and fast. Very punchy. Also very directional. By comparison, my Splawn 2x12 (closed back) is more dispersed and open. Not as focused, not as tight. More similar to my Marshall 2x12 cab ... all are great. Depends what your after. Anyway, that's been my experience.

Don't know if you have the ENGL PRO cabinet or the standard -- very big difference in the tone. The standard uses particle board instead of full Siberian Birch, and it's mono only.

I have the Pro ... never played the Standard ....

The trade was concerning a pro but I'm thinking it would be very little difference between what I have and the engl. I love tight and punchy, but the VHT does that in spades so I will probably keep looking around. Thanks a lot guys for the input! I'm also finding I think I like rear loaded a bit better as they can be in your face if set that way, but the FB seems to always sound that way.way.
