Well, judging from the clips it really would not be ideal for an authentic 80's hair metal tone. Like you said, too modern and tight sounding.
Believe or not, actually having not too tight amp with that marshall kerrang and treble left intact seems to be the recipe for a great 80's tone. Combined with a JB ofc.

I just got mine the other day. I can’t comment yet as I really only had the chance to test it out make sure everything works. I go for a tight, clear, percussive, grinding metal tone and it definitely does that. I was never a fan of the SAT on Jose style amps (Cameron, Friedman, Et al) so not really into it on this. It does get bass heavy quick though. I didn’t like the thump switch engaged
