I was offered a Cauble Super 50 in a potential trade and there isn't much out there on them. Just wondering if anyone has some first hand experience.

From what I've gathered it's a handwired "super" Marshall.

Sounds like a very well built high gain amp. He has stopped building them. What value is he putting on it?

It would be a trade for my Mako Mak 4 and VHT 2/50/2 rig
Without playing it I would not do that trade. The Mako and VHT have better resale than an amp no one has heard of. It could be a really good amp though but to trade, not love it and have to resell it, might not be in your favor,. From what I heard of his amps they are really good but I have heard that about other amps I did not love. Is it a 50/100 or just a 50? I read his designs are high gain. One guy said it killed an Uberschall it sat next to.

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking. I would have the chance to play it first but not get to know it so I wouldn't want to get stuck with an amp I can't move, although moving the Mako hasn't been the easiest either

I believe it is just a 50. Appreciate the tips. Seems like it could definitely be a cool amp though.

Worth plugging into. Can't hurt.

Thats good logic ;)
But I would try it out

I don't remember the model of Cauble a friend of mine had but it was cool. It had a ton of tones and you could switch between different tubes with the footswitch. But, he also told me that there were other less desirable models. The one he had was 3 channels, I think. Yeah, it was definitely in the vein of a hot rodded marshall. I remember liking it while switching to the el34s and the gain channel at about halfway, the thing smoked. I remember that it had great touch sensitivity, required a light touch.I will see if I can get ahold of him and find out the model he has. its been a while since I have talked to him.

it was the cauble omnitone and it was a great amp!!

Thanks for the info! I believe this super 50 is a 2 channel without the ability to foot switch between tubes like that so probably in the less desirable category.

Tom made some killer amps. He made the first 60 watt Omnitone for me.
