How was it? How did you find the single coils? I want something to replace a Universe, something with singles, and I guess ideally HSS. I've looked at Fenders and I figure although I don't love EMGs, I adore EBMM guitars - so why not get another right? - and I've seen a few people say the EMGs sound stellar in it, so I'm looking for more opinions.

Hey Adam! I love the Luke model. I have played one on several occasions and would most definitely be my next EBMM purchase. The 85 in the bridge sounds much more smooth than the 81 and the single coils sound great too. There is a marginal drop in volume when switching to the singles but that was no biggie to me. The guitar itself may feel small at first but it is super comfortable to hold. For the most part people either love or hate the neck shape (a pronounced V). To me it wasn't very noticible. In fact I like versatility in look and feel from guitar to guitar.

My recommendation would be to give it a try. It is super versatile!

My first choice would be a Carbon Blue:

Too bad they don't do this color anymore because I actually really like the Dargie Delight limited run color on the Luke:

Adam, don't forget about the EBMM Silhouette Special as well. If you want a more powerful bridge HB, you'll probably have to replace the stock version, but it will give you the Strat tones easily and of course plays as well as any other EBMM.

I've had 2 of the earlier series Lukes w/Floyd Rose trems and I
really liked them both......The EMG's have never been my thing
but I did'nt mind them at all in the Luke....The neck shape is a
little different from the other guitars I have but not enough that
I did'nt want to play 'em.........I have since sold them both and
really wish I had one of them back (the one Luke signed!)........

Hey Adam,
I have a 98 Luke in purple sparkle:

It was my first EBMM, and the start of a terrible addiction! While the SLV single coils may not be vintagey per-se, they DO sound fantastic...more output and midrange than vintage, and yet the notch positions still sound great. As mentioned, the 85 is nice and thick in the bridge without being overly muddly. I have pretty big hands, and while some find their necks too small, the Luke still fits me very well; I really like the V carve, which is unique among their instruments. Overall, if you're looking for a super strat with it's own voice, I'd say you can't go wrong, the craftsmanship is as good as your JP!

I liked the JP better than the LUKE i tried...but that's just personal preference...the LUKE was an outstanding guitar...i just prefer the feel of the JP better. EBMM does make awesome geetars

I don't, unfortunately...I'd whip some up if I could, but I'm currently deployed to the middle east, so I'm out of arm's reach of my gear! ;) The pickups are good enough that I'm trying to get them for my travel guitar, a steinberger.

No man, it doesn't. You need three more of each, and that should do it.

Thanks TK! And FWIW, the Floyded Silo is yours as soon as I get home...as you can see, I love the EBMMs, but I just can't agree with the floyd fine tuners digging into my hands. Big mitts, what can I say?

I'll use it to fund another EBMM ;)
